Married Parthenia C. Ball,b.Abt.1821,Sc. M.Abt.1840,Ala. I only have one Child in my file for them: 1.Benjamin Gabriel Godbey,b.30 July 1842. Francis was the son of Gabriel Godbey,b.15 Nov.,1778, Newberne,Montgomery Co.,Va. and Sarah Jane Crouch,b.Abt.1782,Newberne,Montgomery Co.,Va. I am descended from Gabriel's son Timothy Carpenter I Godbey through both of his wives Sophia Edwards & Mary "Polly"Miller Frogge. I also would like to know what happened to Francis A. Godbey's family. I tried to write one of his descendant's several years ago but my letter was returned the Descendant had Passed away. I do have a lot on the Godbey family, but have only put the Gabriel Godbey branch in my Family tree Maker file. I do have 13 chart books on the Godbey family that I hand wrote out over the last 33 years. I live in the Godbey home land area In Lincoln,Pulaski & Casey co's Kentucky. I've been to Pall Mall(Overton Co) Now Near Fentress co., but in Pickett Co.,Tn. There is some evidence that this Gabriel Godbey family also lived in Rhea Co.,Tn. But I also have found a marriage of one of the Daughter's in Washington Co.,Ky. Father Gabriel signed for her to marry. any responses to anything I have should be directed to My Post office box address, for personal Inquiry. I started Collecting family information on the 7th of October 1974,when I was only 10 Years old. It was my Mother who got me started in genealogy. she would drive around on rides going through cemetery's We would copy down Related names and I would put this Information In my own hand written charts. Now the Computer age is around I've been trying to transcribe this information over to the Family Tree Malker formate, but over the last 7 years and 3 Computers Later I've Got the Gabriel Godbey Branch of the William Godbey (1750)William,Family in my F.T.M.file. I've also been working on puting my Sirname of Standish On a diffrent file on F.T.M.,This seems to take great Deal of Time and a lot of setting.(Pain) I ran out of file Space 10 years ago,so I have boxes of family Notes None of it in files. I now believe I may have the space for some new Filing Cabinets so soon I may have some order to the Genealogy. I do have about 13 Chart books full of Godby-Godbey family Charts,William & John's family's. I've even got a Double cousin who's Related on her one side to your Branch of the Family,Her family's at Bethelridge Cem.In Casey Co.,Ky. Have you Ever been to Bethelridge Cem.? It has Godbey Family Tombestones so old they are Imposible to read Expecialy in the Back Section. I've been to the Godbey Cem. in Chapmansville,W.Va. I saw what was Left of the Godbey'Looking Glass Cliff's At Crater Lake In Pulaski Co.,Va. I have been researching the Godbey Family over 32 years. I live not far from Bethelridge but in Lincoln Co.,Ky. I am in contact with both the two branches of the Godbey family, and many of the descendants of the John Godbey family(1752 John) Have said for years that they could not believe that they were related to the William Godbey (1750)Branch of the family But they are. Some have been putting another generation in the line Before Wm. & John But it is Clear that there father was John Godbey b.1705,the son of Edward Godbee. It will take me a while to study it all. One mistake I did see right away because it is my great, great grandmother Octavia Jones who married Jacob Godby. Her father was NOT Silas Jones. I have seen this mistake elsewhere. Her father was Thomas E. Jones proven by a list of heirs in a land deed. Her mother's name was Elizabeth also proven by references to her and Thomas E. in land sales. Her surname hasn't been proven yet but there is some evidence it might have been Horn. 3. David, Don't recall if we have been in touch before but my Godby connection is through William's son John and his daughter Susannah who married into my Ragan line. I guess John would have been my GGG Grandfather on my paternal side. I am always willing to trade information with anyone interested. I'm curious, if I have had my DNA done through my Jones DNA site, can you compare it to Godby DNA? 3. I couldn't help but notice you are in the Tampa area, and I live in Tampa. I am a Godby from south GA. I believe that my great great grandfather William Godby's family moved from GA to Indiana or Kentucky. I have not been able to locate them past his generation. He lived in Lee Co., GA in 1850 census, close to Williams brother-in-law. There were Godbys in GA in 1790 census. Have been unable to get past William, b.c. 1815. He had sons John, Thomas, Reddin and Elijah; daughters Adaline, Margaret Rebecca, Melissa, Eliza. Is anything familiar to you? (William, Elijah, John (son of Elijah) are buried in Seminole County, GA. There is a large family of Godbys there, and Jerry Godby is the Sheriff of Seminole Co. 3. In light of Marilyn's post, I thought I'd let everyone know that I run a Godby/Godbey DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. The use of DNA as a tool in genealogy has come of age in this decade. The DNA tested is part of the unrecombined Y-Chromosome DNA that is passed from father to son over many centuries with very little change. The DNA test used is not a paternity test, as the results obtained are shared by each male person who descends from a common paternal ancestor. We have two results to date; mine with roots in Pulaski Co. KY, (a Godby but for a name change in 1833), and a Godby with roots in S.W. Virginia. We match, confirming the common descent of the Pulaski Co., Kentucky Godby's with the S.W. Virginia Godby's from William Godby born around 1725 in Carolina Co., VA through his sons John and William. I'd be happy to answer any questions. Google Family Tree DNA for info as well. 3. I am looking for my great great grandfather's family. I am fairly certain he was born in GA, lived in Lee County, GA with his wife Elizabeth Williams Godby and children in 1850. (I know that Elizabeth was raised in Washington Co, GA.) He had sons named John, Reddin and Elijah. He had daughters named Adeline, Melissa, Rebecca, Eliza. They would later moved to Decatur Co., GA. He is there in 1860, and when Seminole County was created out of Decatur in 1920, the area went to Seminole. Elijah is my great grandfather. He also married a Williams, which family settled in Sumter Co., GA, and his brother John went there to live and raise his family. John is buried in the Williams Cemetery in Sumter Co., and also Reddin, who died as a child.
