Thanks for taking the time to look at this. My last name is LaPoint and I have been refered to the Godard and Tousignant boards as LaPoint is a dit for these. My problem is this: I have the descendants of Francois LaPointe, s/o Francois and Rosalie Miron, and Marie Antaya dit Pelletier, d/o Michel and Marie Menard. I also have the descendants of Michel/Baptiste LaPointe, the man Marie Antaya dit Pelletier married after Francois died. I know there has to be someone looking for this same Michel/Baptiste, but for the life of me, I cannot find him! All I know is that "he came from Red River of the North", and he worked for the Am. Fur Co. Now after searching through the Civil war records of WI, I fnd that there is a town(?) called Red River! Anyone have any ideas if Francois or Michel could be a Godard? Thank You!! Alice

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jackie Wilson Smith, and I've just taken on the administrative duties of the GODARD mailing list. I'm also the administrator for the message boards. Our list has a total of 16 subscribers (13 on the letter mode and 3 on the digest mode). Copies of posts to the message board will be forwarded to the mailing list. These messages are easily identifiable by the following statement at the beginning of each such message: "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." For those of you who are unfamiliar with these "gatewayed" messages, I wanted to explain a little bit. The authors of those posts are not necessarily subscribers to the mailing list. If they are not a subscriber, they won't see any responses sent to the list. The best way to respond is to use the URL provided in the message and click the "Post Reply" link. I'm a pretty easy going person, and had the following "guidelines", which will be added to the welcome message shortly, but wanted all of you know them. Personally, I think they are just common sense & courtesy, and I do hope you'll feel the same. "My goal is that GODARD mailing list will be a positive experience for every subscriber. To that end, these few guidelines have been established: 1. When replying to a message, please "snip" (copy & paste) only the relevant portions of the original message to yours. This saves time and space for everyone. 2. The following items should not be posted to the mailing list: a.) Virus alerts b.) Chain letters 3. Everyone has their own opinion, but before posting a message, please ask yourself "Would I say this to the person's face?" If the answer is no, perhaps rewording the message is the best option. Although our list is focused on the GODARD surname, I encourage friendly & helpful off-topic posts, such as URL's, governmental agencies postal addresses, etc. Please remember these mailing lists are archived on RootsWeb & accessible to anyone - not just list subscribers. That being the case, the posting of personal postal addresses is discouraged and is better accomplished in a private e-mail to the person requesting the information." For general information on mailing lists, visit http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/2544/html/email.htm I'm hoping we'll be seeing a little more activity in the days to come. All messages sent through the list will have [GODARD] as the first word in the subject. This makes mailing list messages easily identifiable. When using the "reply" button, the mailing list address will be filled in automatically, rather than the author of the message to which you are replying. If you want to reply off list, simply type in the author's e-mail address. Having replies go back to the list keeps the activity going. If a person is looking at the archives, they will be able to see the responses whereas when the replies go back to the original author, it looks like no one responded. Okay, that's it for the "news." If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me privately. Happy Hunting! Jackie Wilson Smith [email protected] --=======1C81115F=======--
