Dear Listers, Firstly I'm sorry this message is so long, please read to the end in case you do recognise any of the GODDARDs listed below. I would appreciate any information or advice you could pass my way as I have a major task in tracing the generations of families before my GF(s). Many of my ancestors, including GODDARD, CORNISH and TAYLOR, were hunt servants employed by different Fox Hunts throughout England, Wales and Ireland. My GF Benjamin GODDARD argued that the GODDARD family had the longest association with foxhunting than any other family. To complicate things further, I remember a Les GODDARD, a Hunt Servant and friend of my Grandfather who was not directly related to my GODDARDs. Their nomadic lifestyle has made it difficult to trace them as they have lived in so many places, often only for a year or two before wanting to or having to move to a different hunt. This is an example: My GGM Annie CORNISH born Exeter, Devon, married (& met) in Hexham, Northumberland, my GGF Harry GODDARD born Stratton Audley, Oxfordshire. Harry served with hunts in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Essex, Lincolnshire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Hampshire, Gloucestershire ........ & Ireland. He and Annie died in Wiltshire after having owned a farm and the Black Horse Pub, Burton Hill, Malmesbury, Wilts. Fortunately their children were born in only two places Cricklade, Wilts and Wiseton, Nottinghamshire - as far as I know! Immediately below is the info I have on the GODDARDs, some of this info I think is safe however some is family hearsay! There are many gaps as to the hunts my ancestors served with, for some I have only found one or two Hunts, or none. SUSAN (born 1888) married a Penn-Edie (not sure what that means, but that';s what my Uncle sent me. Now, my great-grandfather THOMAS (lised above), all I know is he married a lady named Mary Lever, and from what i know, they had 2 kids- THOMAS (my grandfather), who was born in Toronto in approx 1900 (don't know excat date yet), and JACK (I believe his name was JACK-if not JACK, then FRANK), and I'm not sure who was older or where JACK was born yet). My grandfather ended up meeting my grandmother ROSELLA (an American citizen), and they obviously settled in Detroit somewhere, where they had all 4 of their ids (THOMAS JR. (my dad), EDITH, FREDERICK, & BEVERLY). It ended up my grandfather was deported for some reason, and I suppose that's why and how they ended up in WINDSOR, ONT. Canada. My grandfather also had a steeplejack business here in Windsor called, "THOMAS GODDARD & SONS". He died in approx. 1964, in Windsor, Ont. Canada and is now buried in Detroit. Hope there is some connection!!!!
