Gen.Benjamin Franklin Cheatham, in whose Confederate division Frank Cheatham Goad's father served. Your Frank died 13 Nov 1956. Buried at Luther,Okla. The father was Jefferson (1832-1896) as you say and he was captured at the Conf. disaster at Franklin, Tenn, in Nov. 1864. His father was Stephen Goad (1808-1889) married to Susan Pankey (1810-1854). They lived near Dixon Springs, Tenn. in Smith County. Buried in Pankey cemetery neasr Difficult, Tn. Jefferson was called "Buck". Stephen's parents were Joshua and Sarah (Toler) Goad who came to Tenn. ca 1804 from Pittsylvania County, Va. about the same time as brothers Reuben and Abraham, all sons of William (born 1734) and Tabitha Goad.. From there it goes back to John (1700-1771) and then Abraham (ca 1665-1734) of Richmond County, Va. William;s older sister was Joanna Sevier, mother of Gen. and Gov. John Sevier of Tenn. Susan Pankey was the daughter of "Ozias" (name not exactly right) Pankey from Manakintown, Va. He too came to Smith County. I wrote a book on the Goads. --- Ken
