Apparently in the English used by the original Goad immigrant(s) and their contemporaries, the Goad name was pronounced with an "r" sound in it. I've been told that in a few locations, this pronunciation still exists, though I've never heard it spoken. In doing Goad research, documents can be found with variations that include Goad, Goade, Gode, Goard, Goarde, Gourd, Gourde, and Gord.
