    1. [GOAD-L] Why James Wesley Goad's father-in-law's face is in stone
    2. Mike and Karen Goad
    3. Hi all, Since I mentioned this in a forum that would go to the list, I thought I should share it. James Wesley Goad married Olive Orabelle Wineland. Her father was John Wineland. When John decided he was too old to farm, he worked at the Livery stable in Bull City for a few years. In 1905 he retired and they moved into Osborne where they lived close to where the new courthouse was being built. Each day, John walked over to see the progress. The contractor told him to go home or he would carve his face in the stone. Wineland did not go home and the contractor kept his word. Many Wineland descendants pass through Osborne to see John's face on the south side of the courthouse. (The south side is the alley side and the carving is high up on the building). Mike
