    3. Hi all, As you may have noticed, there have been a few posts in the last couple of days that seemed to be replies to old messages... and they were, but not to old messages to this mailing list. I'll try to explain why this is occurring, and then I'd like some feedback from you. About 2 weeks ago, the GenConnect genealogy bulletin boards essentially ceased to exist. All of the boards (queries, obits, deeds, bible records, etc.) were merged together, though individual messages can be assigned a "classification." The available classifications are similar to what the individual separate boards used to be. The boards were not just merged together at RootsWeb. They were also merged with the Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com message boards. RootsWeb was purchased last year by Ancestry, which is a subsidiary of MyFamily and the decision to merge the boards was a business decision based on elimination of duplication of services. I am the message board manager for the Goad message board (and several more). The purpose of this message is to explain why we are getting the messages that have appeared in the last few days, not to discuss the pros and cons of the merging of the lists. The old GenConnect Goad message boards were "gatewayed" to our mailing list. This meant that any message posted there was automatically forwarded to the mailing list. When they were, the message would state "Posted on (whatever message board it was posted on) and provide the internet address of the message for replies to the message. The current message Goad board retained the "gateway" feature. However, the messages that are "gateway-ed" to the mailing list do state where they are posted from nor do they provide the internet address of the message. The gateway feature for our mailing list is one of the things that I have control over. I can turn it on or off. My question for you is: Do I leave the gateway turned on so that messages to the board will appear on the list or do I turn it off? Mike
