    3. Hi all, There are three areas I would like to see some documentation or proof: First, I would like positive proof of the parentage of James M. Goad who married Margaret Shockley. Many believe his father was Robert Goad who migrated to Maury County, Virginia. While I agree that Robert is the most likely candidate, I'd like to see more proof. Second, I would like to know the maiden name of Ann who was the second wife of John Goad of Bedford. Many say that her name was Ann Isham, but I have yet to hear of anyone who has any sort of proof or documentation for it. Third, and likely most difficult, I would like to see some sort of documentation of the parentage of Abraham Goad of Richmond County, Virginia. Claims that Richard Goode/Goade of Essex County (before that, Old Rappahannock County) was his father have no proof as far as I know. Neither is there any proof for John Good/Goad of Virginia or Richard Goad/Gorde of Massachusetts. There exists documentation of tithing requirements for an Abraham Goad in Lancaster County as early as October 1861. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikegoad/html/doc00313.htm It is likely a good assumption that one would have to be an adult to be individually required to tithe (tithing was the term for taxation at this point in colonial Virginia) so this Abraham was likely at least 16 at the very youngest and likely older. This would place the year of his birth at 1645, five years after the first settlers arrived in the Northern Neck. It is very unlikely that this Abraham is the same Abraham who married Katherine Williams and died in 1734. If it was the same man, he would have been 89 at his death, an incredibly old age. However, this early Abraham is a good potential father for a later Abraham who married Katherine. As well, he is found in Lancaster County, which bordered the area of Old Rappahannock County and, later, Richmond County where the later Abraham's land was. Mike
