    3. Posted on: Goad Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Goad/10249 Surname: Goad, Watson, Pate, Goodson ------------------------- Ken, The Ida Goad and Morton Goodson 1 March 1906 was 1st marriage for Ida Goad, Dau of Sapphira Goad (Elijah Watson's widow)& Littlebury Goad her cousin. In 1890 Ida had Millie Watson (ill) with a Benjamin Watson, (my g-grandmother) 2nd had James Pate (ill) with a Pate?, 1 March 1906she then married Oliver Morton Goodson and had Iva Goodson (legit). Oliver Morton was married before to Mary Elizabeth Spelts. It gets complicated from here again as Millie Watson, Ida's daughter married James Wesley Goodson, 6 26 1906 and the Oliver Morton Goodson Ida married was James Goodson's brother. Leora Goodson was James Goodson's sister who married James F. Goad 29 July 1905 the son of Clemon Q and Sallie Goad born 11 10 1883. My problem is tracking Ida after the 1880 Green Co census in the household of Sophy & Littleberry Goad at the age of 8 I believe she was in Green co as my g-grandmother Millie stated that as her birthplace. The only place in any records she has a father listed is on her social security app. Benjamin Watson. As Ida was still a Goad, I feel this is accurate. I have found no records on child James Pate. 3. I am a descendant of Reuben and Mary Witcher Goad and Sabra Witcher and William B. Jenkins. The Goad's and Jenkins were in Smith and Macon Counties in Tennessee and these families intermarried. My gr grandparents were second cousins. I believe that Wiley Dycus was probably the son of either of the two oldest Goad daughters - Nancy Goad was born Nov 4, 1790 and Sally Goad was born June 11, 1799. The descendants of this family can account for the marriages of the other daughters. I hope that Herbert will share the letters he has with all of us Goad and Jenkins descendants as there is no record on file of Reuben's estate. It would be a Genealogist's dream to have this information! 2. twellman
    3. I found a definition for goad this on the Internet while research some math problems for class I thought you might enjoy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. . goad a traditional unit of distance sometimes used in measuring cloth. One goad is equal to 54 inches or 1.5 yards (1.3716 meters). A goad was originally a spear; later it was a pointed rod used for prodding animals to get a move on. The unit must have originated as the length of such an instrument.

William Oscar Goad, nickname Scott, was born September 22, 1884 in Sligo, Dent County MO, according to his Social Security Card application. Parents are listed as Felix William Goad and Nancy Drummonds. I believe that Felix died in 1884 or 1885 in Dent County, or possibly Phelps county, but I have been unable to find any information on him. I do know that Nancy remarried and moved to Poplar Bluff, which is recorded in the 1900 census. If anyone has any information about Felix, please contact me. Thanks.

    1. [GOAD-L] Goad-Hardin
    2. Hi all, There are several areas of interest to me with our Goads, but there is one area that I am particularly interested in and that is of the spouse of Rev John Goad of KY and AR. John Goad was the son of Lewis Goad b 1772 Pittsylvania VA and Susie Walker b abt 1775 VA. The minister John Goad was b Sept 6, 1806 I believe in Christian Co KY, he d Dec 3, 1887 in Denmark, White Co. AR. John mar first Elizabeth Hardin abt 1826 in Graves Co. KY. Elizabeth d Oct 3, 1875 in Denmark. Who was Elizabeth Hardin? Almost everything I can find has no records of her family in Graves County, KY. Did her family live in a county nearby? Some think she may be of the "Knob Creek" Hardin's. Many of the Hardin's of KY are very well known, but I have not heard of anyone tying our Elizabeth Hardin-Goad into the Hardin line. Has anyone out there found out where she came from? One record that survives is an account of Geo. Washiongton Goad son of John Goad who states in an 1890's article in God Speed that his mother (Elizabeth Hardin-Goad) was the dau or grandau of a Benjamin Hardin who was in the Revolutionary War. After Elizabeth and John Goad marry her life record seems to be well stabilized in White County. John and Elizabeth Goad left Graves County KY for Denmark AR on Feb 3, 1846 with wagons and it took 2 months travel to arrive. Would someone share with me and the Goad list who they think Elizabeth Hardin's parents were and how they got to Graves County, KY. Mike Golden
