I have located a William Goad and an Andrew Goad in Short Bend Township, Dent County MO in the 1880 census. Source Macon County Times, May 10, 2001 Lucille GOAD Russell Hill Community resident Lucille GOAD, 91, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Services were Conducted Monday afternoon, 1:00 pm at Russell Hill Presbyterian Church. Buried followed in the Patterson Cemetery. She was born in Smith County, Tennessee on Sept. 23, 1909 and was the daughter of the late Luther and Fannie YOUNGER RUSSELL. Her husband, the late Harvie Lafayette GOAD, preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1984. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Apparently in the English used by the original Goad immigrant(s) and their contemporaries, the Goad name was pronounced with an "r" sound in it. I've been told that in a few locations, this pronunciation still exists, though I've never heard it spoken. In doing Goad research, documents can be found with variations that include Goad, Goade, Gode, Goard, Goarde, Gourd, Gourde, and Gord. A record in an old family Bible shows someone named, "Goarde" married Elizabeth McDougal on the last day of December in 1857. There is also a birth date of a "Goard" child listed in the Bible. The writing in the old Bible is hard to read, but I believe that "Goarde"/"Goard" is probably "Goad". If anyone has information that could help shed light on this mystery please let me know. Thanks!
My gramdfather's name was Robert Lee Goad, born in Tennessee (Pulaski?) about 1882 and immigrated to East Texas, Hunt County, TX. He had a sister, Ophelia Goad Branch and one brother, Jim that I know of. Jim Goad lived in Pauls Valley OK as late as the 1950's. Robert Lee Goad married Leona Pearl Branch and my father was Chalmers Leon Goad born 9/25/08 in Hunt County TX family moved to Lubbock TX. Would appreciate any information.
Looking for information on Paul Goad who lived in Memphis from the early 1900's until the 1950's. Paul was probably born in about 1880. He married Mary Dora (Harris) Brooks at sometime after the death of her husband Oscar Brooks, who died in Aug 1917. Mary Dora (Harris) Brooks was born in August 1882 (or 1883), and married Oscar Brooks in about 1902. They had 4 children: Earl Brooks (b: 1904), Dor Lee (b: 1911), Gladys (b:1906) Jack (b: 1908).
