My name is James Hammock and I am tring to put together a family history book for myself and for my dad.Can anyone help me with any information on Martha Goad and John Hammock.Could use all information you are willing to share. Thank you ....
Hello Rose, Thank you very much for your concern. William Frank Goad, Sr. is my gr gr uncle. In actuality, are the children of Wm. Frank Goad, Sr. to whom you refer. Mr. Goad was born in 1831 in KY & died 2 August 1898, according to a front page article in both the San Francisco newspapers at the time, in San Rafael, Marin Co., CA; , his wife Mary "Mollie" Cook Goad preceded him in death in San Francisco-5 Oct. 1891, also shown in the 2 San Francisco newspapers. The 3 children you refer to are his children. Long before he was a lawyer in San Francisco, he was a lawyer in Colusa and started the Colusa County Bank (next to your county courthouse. As I remember, it is once again a law office in the year 1999). This Mr. & Mrs. Goad were buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, San Francisco until greed captivated the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and after 35 years of trying to close Laurel hill, home of the pioneers, they finally succeeded. They moved all of the cemetery residents to Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, where they are basically in a semi-common grave known as "The Laurel Hill Mound." I was told that was why the children were left at the original burial site. I have bad feelings as to how and why the parents had to be moved, much less these innocent children. The "new" Colusa Cemetery contains the remains of William Frank Goad's brother, James Wilkins Goad and his Wife, Ella B. Wall. (James W. also used the Colusa County Bank, for his law offices). Their first child was Mollie Frank Goad, who lived only 1869-1870 born and died in Colusa. In 1875 their second daughter, Hattie Belle Goad was born, she married Charles Albert de St. Maurice (also a Colusa County government official). Hattie Belle died in 1947. Is there some reason someone thinks the graves should be moved, at this time? When I first learned of their graves being in a city park & not with their parents, I too, was saddened. However, the closest living relative should really be contacted. Her name is Yvonne & she can be reached at yvoneu@aol.com These people are of her direct line. I would also like to be kept posted on the outcome of this problem. It would be wise to remember, if it can happen in a city the size of San Francisco, our forefathers remains are vulnerable anywhere! Mike, Why don't you leave it alone for a few weeks to see how it goes; then if it is too much, turn it off. Cynthia.
LOOKING FOR GOAD CUMBERLAND MARYLAND OR PENN. EARL B GOAD, MARRIED HELEN WAKEFOOSE, ROSALEE DUNN, CHARLES C. GOAD. DONNA

Mike - Just leave it alone .. the activity will eventually die off. All we have to do is hit "delete" and the message goes away (grin) Jerry http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~peasoup/
Hi all, As you may have noticed, there have been a few posts in the last couple of days that seemed to be replies to old messages... and they were, but not to old messages to this mailing list. I'll try to explain why this is occurring, and then I'd like some feedback from you. About 2 weeks ago, the GenConnect genealogy bulletin boards essentially ceased to exist. All of the boards (queries, obits, deeds, bible records, etc.) were merged together, though individual messages can be assigned a "classification." The available classifications are similar to what the individual separate boards used to be. The boards were not just merged together at RootsWeb. They were also merged with the Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com message boards. RootsWeb was purchased last year by Ancestry, which is a subsidiary of MyFamily and the decision to merge the boards was a business decision based on elimination of duplication of services. I am the message board manager for the Goad message board (and several more). The purpose of this message is to explain why we are getting the messages that have appeared in the last few days, not to discuss the pros and cons of the merging of the lists. The old GenConnect Goad message boards were "gatewayed" to our mailing list. This meant that any message posted there was automatically forwarded to the mailing list. When they were, the message would state "Posted on (whatever message board it was posted on) and provide the internet address of the message for replies to the message. The current message Goad board retained the "gateway" feature. However, the messages that are "gateway-ed" to the mailing list do state where they are posted from nor do they provide the internet address of the message. The gateway feature for our mailing list is one of the things that I have control over. I can turn it on or off. My question for you is: Do I leave the gateway turned on so that messages to the board will appear on the list or do I turn it off? Mike

Is this Maud Goad related to James Eugene Goad (1952-1898) who is buried in Moody Cemetery, Moody, McLennan Co., Texas? Moody, is just a few miles north of the Bell County line. My GGM Fanny Goad Chaney is buried within 20-25 feet of the graves of the family of James Eugene Goad. Fanny is a daughter of Ephraim Goad and Susannah Jester who lived in Georgia before moving to Carroll Co., AR, before 1860. Fanny was recorded to be L. Perlina Goad and her tombstone does read "L. P. Chaney." However, she was always called Fanny. --------------------------------------------------------------- Dameron-Damron Family Association: http://www.mindspring.com/~ccchaney/ddfa/ddfa.html Charles Chaney's Web Pages: http://www.mindspring.com/~ccchaney/index.html

I have this family, although I have William Frank born about 1832, not 1849. Here is what I have on his family and his siblings: Descendants of Peter Goad Generation No. 1 1. Rev. Peter5 Goad (Peter4, John3, John2, Abraham1) was born December 06, 1801 in Hopkins County, KY, and died July 19, 1879 in Hopkins County, KY. He married (1) Martha A. Bennett 1827 in Hopkins County, KY. He married (2) Amanda Weir Wilkins May 01, 1828 in Hopkins County, KY. She was born October 22, 1809, and died April 03, 1951 in Hopkins County, KY. Children of Peter Goad and Amanda Wilkins are: 2 i. Nancy Elizabeth6 Goad, born 1829; died 1886. She married Thomas E. Taliaferro December 23, 1856 in Hopkins County, KY. + 3 ii. William Frank Goad, born 1832 in KY; died Abt. 1885 in Colusa County, California. 4 iii. Dorothy F. Goad, born 1834. She married Lewis W. Gatlin May 13, 1858 in Hopkins County, KY. 5 iv. Amanda Ellen Goad, born 1836; died 1888. She married John M. Pennington December 14, 1859 in Hopkins County, KY. + 6 v. Peter Samuel Blackburn Goad, born July 06, 1837 in Hopkins County, Kentucky; died August 10, 1911 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. 7 vi. James Wilkins Goad, born 1839 in Hopkins County, Kentucky; died 1920 in Colusa County, California?. He married Louisa Lawrence December 08, 1865 in Greene County, Indiana; born 1844 in Indiana. + 8 vii. David Clarence Goad, born 1840 in Hopkins County, Kentucky; died April 04, 1876 in Logan County, IL. 9 viii. Abraham Lewis Goad, born 1844 in Hopkins County, Kentucky; died 1896. He married Geneva Loving. Generation No. 2 3. William Frank6 Goad (Peter5, Peter4, John3, John2, Abraham1) was born 1832 in KY, and died Abt. 1885 in Colusa County, California. He married Mary Cook April 27, 1863. She was born in KY, and died 1891 in Colusa County, California. Notes for William Frank Goad: Yvonne Neumann of California, a ggg granddaughter of J. Frank has sent me some interesting data on these men. A third brother, John C. Goad, also joined the other two in California and was apparently a minister as was Samuel, another brother back in Kentucky. Whether they rate as equally "successful" depends on one's point of view I find that Frank had other distinctions nor mentioned previously. He was for a time President of the Wells Fargo Express Company; in semi-retirement he served as president of the San Francisco Board of Education and he qualified as a lawyer to practice before the United States Supreme CourtÂ….not bad for a farmer from Kentucky!
