I have data on your Aaron, Frances and Peter if you do ny already have it. I do wonder about the N.Car. bit. My records would indicate Aaron was likely born in Tenn, died in the 1840s in Greene County, Ind and "Fannie" died in the 1850s. Do you know where the N.Car. bit came from ?? Losing a leg in the Civil War was new to me also. Thanks. --- Ken

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kIZ.2ACEB/1082.1 Message Board Post: Linda --- I think you are amidst one of our many Goad "mysteries". On the 1850 Tenn. census records, we find a William and Martha Goad in Marion County, Tenn. They had a son Henry, age four, in 1850 plus son James and daughter Nancy. Years later we find an Ephriam Henry , a former UNION soldier, in Georgia who married Tennessee CAGLE 2 March 1865 in Monroe County, Tenn. In the same year, James Goad married Elizabeth CAGLE.These two men are the two sons on the 1850 census.Ephriam Henry stated on his pension application that his parents were William and Martha Goad. I would not suspect these men as connected to your Louis Abraham were it not for the Cagle connection, a not very common name. Ephriam Henry had no son named Louis Abraham so I would suspect James as his father. Elizabeth (Cagle) Goad later divorced James in May, 1867 in Monroe County.on the grounds of adultery. I do not find James on later censuses in Tenn. For several reasons, I believe the father of William and the older James was Hiram Goad, likely a son of old Abraham Goad (1742-1816). Hiram and wife Eliza were in Monroe County, Tenn. in 1830 along with likely brother Ayers (Ayres) who went to Indiana soon after 1830. Trying to find data on Hiram has proved very elusive. I would suggest you follow the CAGLE family and see if it might lead you to your Louis Abraham. Otherwise, a search of court and deed records in Monrie County ca 1820-1840 might help. The census records have been explored. Another lead possibly. In 1860 we found Henry, age 15 and James, age 13, livinbg in the Monroe County household of William and Mary GANN. It would appewar that Wlliam and Martha might have died in the 185Os. That's about all I have to offer. --- Ken

That sounds like a moral judgement <grin> I am descended from James GOADE m.1676 Gwennap Jane CROWSIER widow. Benjamin Rice was born in VA (the 1880 census shows his father was born in France - mother in VA) - he was 74 on that census record which was in Carter Co KY and Matilda was shown as 70 then (Her birth place was shown as VA in 1850 but from 1860-1880 - she showed TN as birth place and I believe this is correct) They are on the Boyd Co 1870 census = he was 65 (an ore digger) and Matilda was 63. They were on the Boyd Co KY 1860 census - he was 54 (farmer) and Matilda was 51. They were on the Greenup Co KY 1850 census - he was 45 and Matilda was 42. They were in the 1830 and 1840 Greenup Co censuses (Benjamin Rice Sr was in the 1830 Greenup Co census and also an Elijah Rice Sr whom I believe to be the brother of Benjamin Sr.) At the time I did the census search I wasn't looking for Goads or Toler/Towler but I'm sure they are there if I had the time to go back and look again. Also in 1830 - Carter and Boyd Co's had not been formed yet - Greenup covered the entire area, so they probably stayed in one place, the county boundaries changed. Judy Atkisson

Matilda Goad Rice is also my ggg grandmother. I show that she and Benjamin Rice Jr were married 10/12/1826 in Pittsylvania Co PA. Believe her mother to be Sarah "Sally" Toler/Towler who was married to Thomas GOAD. My relationship is thru Samuel Rice (one of Matilda and Benjamin's younger sons). I have noticed that there are a lot of Rice/Towler/Toler/Goads in the Carter/Greenup Co area of KY around 1830/1840 period - they probably all moved to the area together. I have seen records of Towler's marrying Rice's and Goads marrying Rice's. Judy Atkisson
