However, when we first moved here we did notice their had been a GOAD in town, a lone fellow, who moved on to Texas I believe. But checking the local phone directories back then we did discover some GOADS I believe around Gothenburg or Gosper County always did wonder if they were on the Virginia line not many than are not. I believe they might have been somebodies over there, ie bank related or something. Yes I do local genealogy here in this area of McCook Red Willow County Nebraska and will be teaching a class on genealogy at our local junior college this month. However, I know of no GOADS in Nebraska really early.

How long have Goads been in that area ? What is rthe oldest Goad of which you know who lived in Nebr/ ? Have you connected back to the early Goads ? I am curious as I wrote a book on the Goads. I had Iowa, Kansas, Colorado but no Nebr. --- Ken

I am just getting around to commenting on your message of a year ago. 1) Mary Elizabeth (Goad) Cock. Why Mary ? I have never heard of any document in which she was any other than plain "Elizabeth". I think I know the genesis of that "Mary" business but it is all a fable. 2) Tempers. I think almost everyone has a temper if sufficiently provoked. However, the people who inhabited the "hollows" in early Appalachia seemed to have more than their fair share, probably because of their isolation and way of life. I could cite several cases from the past fifty years in my own Goad family, some humorous, some not a bit funny. 3) Buncombe. The Goad tradition is that old Robert Goad, one of the two Graysom/Carroll settlers, lived for awhile in Buncombe County, N.Car. and obtained his bridge, Isabell, there. There is no proof. I know of no other Goad connection to that county. 4) Indians. I do not believe any of the early Goads had Indian connections. As the years went by, who knows who married who so far as nationality or race were concerned. People married without questioning the details of their intended's background. (did you ? Me neither). Given the disparity of numbers, very dark complexioned people were much more likely to have African-American blood, partricularly in the deep South, than Indian. Of course, that was much less likely in the hill counties where slaves were so few.The Goad-related Tobias Phillips family in Grayson/Carroll had quite a few slaves. Sorry (I guess) to be so verbose. --- Ken

They are both buried at Beautiful Home Cemetery Tompkinsville Kentucky. The land for Beautiful Home Cemetery was donated by my Great Grand Parents John & Nancy Jane (Goad) Crowe so this leads me to believe that they were closely related to Will. I have censs records only up to 1880 so just miss Will, born 1882. However, I can find these Goad families on the 1880 Mobroe census -- Henry and Sarrilda Goad - they had a William T. born ca 1879 James Harvey and Mary Goad - they had a William A. born ca 1877. Milton J. and Martha E. Goad - I do not believe they had a son William.. That leaves only Samuel T. and Liza J. Goad on the 1880 census. However, I might have missed one or more other Goad families (???). Samuel was the son of Luke Goad, son of Thomas and Sarah of Rhea County, Tenn. That's about all I can offer. --- Ken
