Surnames: Goad Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kIZ.2ACEB/1111.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I don't see Eliza and Doyle in Oliver's household in 1860. I have Oliver age 25, Sarah AR age 23, Mary age 5, Sabrina AB age 1, and a Harriet Curtis age 17 also in the household. I realize that Oliver probably isn't on the Dent Census in 1880, but at this point I'm eliminating people as opposed to looking for proof. I've been thinking the name could be Felix William or Felix Oliver, but Oliver Felix or any combination containing Felix, Oliver, or William is certainly possible. With no birth or death certificates I just can't be sure. Or it could be someone with none of those names!! So basically, I'm looking for where did Oliver and his wife end up - and were they together, or was she alone with the children before 1884? Another thought - was there another Oliver that I haven't found yet that could also be an option? I'm just pulling at straws where ever I find them. Thanks again, Terry

Oliver had two brothers in 1860 Lawrence County, Robert and Emanuel. Robert died in the 1860s. By 1870 Emanuel is still there as is the widow of Robert. Oliver and his family is missing (always assuming the census was correctly copied). If you check it, Emauel and Robert's widow Sarah are visitations # 198 and 199 in Strawberry Township. Oliver in 1860 had a wife Sarah also., He was 25, she 23. Children then were Eliza,Doyle and Sarah B. I find no Oliver or Doyle in 1880 Missouri. --- Ken

At a family function a few weeks ago, a cousin mentioned a family tradition of alternating the names William and Oliver through 5 generations. All this time, I've been looking for Felix or William Felix, but if the tradition is true then my grandfather William's father would be Oliver. Today I found this census entry for Oliver Goad, in an area of Arkansas that I've been told my grandfather lived in at one time. So I'm thinking there might be a link.

The family tradition was that one of the "grandmothers" was a full-blood Cherokee. Susannah Jester was the most likely candidate but that appears to be untrue. (Her mother was a Spencer.) However, one of her brothers did marry a full-blood Cherokee! That may be the root of the "tradition" in my Chaney lineage. I was told that JamesHenry Goad's wife was named Alice May/Mae Hill but the person who provided the info listed no source. I show Floyd's twin as Boyd.

I have a brother, Charles Edmund Goad, Jr., who was born in 1958 and I (Timothy Lee Goad) was born in 1960. As a matter of fact, we were both born on October 25th in Welch, WVA two years apart! You and I connect at Aaron Goad as Reuben and my ancestor Robert,Jr ("Big Robin") were brothers, sons of Aaron.. My mother (1893-1997) (Yes, 104) was born in Carroll County, Va. I wrote a book on the Goads. I have much more detail on your families. Roy had daughters Iris Garay and Eleanor Marie Scott. If your name is Goad, they must have had a brother, your father, that I have no record of. The daughters were born 1928 and 1930 so maybe your father bon ca 1932 and you ca 1960 ??? I'd guess you at about age forty. -- Ken

Your Robert died in the 1860s leaving the widow Sarah. The two Roberts and sons John and James the same age which really thew me. I think the Rbert who married Celia had 47 years between the ages if his two wives !! When Ayers (Ayres) was first found in ca 1805 Anderson County, Tenn. (tax list), there was a John Goad on the same tax list likelyu either a brother or cousin. He appeared once more in 1812 in Anderson or Campbell , then disappeared. This John COULD have been the father of Ephriam but we cannot prove it, Susannah Jester was supposed to have been part Indian and there seems to be more evidence han in most such claims. Another son of Ephriam was General Harrison Goad of 1880 Madison County, Ark. Also an Ephriam, Jr (E.T.T. called "Taylor") with old Eph in 1870 Carroll County. I never have figured out if Ephraim or Ephriam is correct or where it was just up to the writer. --- Ken ---
