    3. Posted on: Goad Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Goad/195 Surname: goad ------------------------- Special thanks to everyone that has sent donations to the cemetery fund: we are well on the way to that new fence! An added benefit to this little project was making contact with some truly wonderful people, some thousands of miles away, some practically next door! Last Thursday I met with Delegate Thomas Jackson and submitted our request for Dept of Historic Preservation funding for maintance of the graves of Confederate soldiers. He agreed to submit a bill on our behalf to include the Cemetery. At $5 per soldier ( we have identified 16) funding will about cover one months mowing expenses, but it is on going. It is my understanding that these funds are available to any Virginia cemetery association, so if anyone else is struggling with cemetery issues you might want to consider applying. Thanks again for all the supportative emails and donations.

    3. Posted on: Goad Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Goad/192 Surname: Goad ------------------------- The Floyd Webb Cemetery is located in Carroll County Virginia adjacent to the original land on Big Reed Island that Robert and Isabelle Goad settled in the 1770's. The cemetery was last fenced 50 years ago using locust trees grown on the farm and community labor. This year the cattle managed to get through the fence several times to cause damage and indignity. The cemetery is one of the oldest in Carroll County , contains about 180 graves of which there are about 50 unmarked fieldstones. I have documented 14 Confederate soldiers (expect to identify more.) There are also the graves of three slaves although none of the families were slave owners. Family members residing in the cemetery include Robert and Alley Durnell , Aaron and Spencer Goad and their Dalton wives, "good Aaron Floyd Goad" and wife Mary Ann Gilley. The cemetery also contains members of the Nester, Worrell, Horton families. It will cost approximately $5000 to replace the fence/ . We are asking anyone that has a Goad connection or an interest in historic preservation to assist us with a modest donation. Donations may be sent to Floyd Webb Cemertery Fund C/o Geraldine Alderman 2857 Pilgrims Trail Road Dugspur,Virginia 24325 Part of Robert and Isabelle's farm is still in the Goad Family.
