    3. Hi Phyllis, I don't think I have any additional information. I shared all that I had at the time. I packed my genealogy material away years ago when I became focused on other interests and it is not normally readily accessible. Also, we are currently traveling. Documentation, or lack thereof, was one of the frustrations I had with genealogy, as I recall. I may get back to it someday, but I am currently working a contract job that takes up much of my time -- I was fully retired for a time -- and, with my other interests, don't see any opportunity for genealogy until the contract is done. I'm sorry that I unable to provide additional information. I hope you and yours are doing well. My grandmother was a descendant of the Goad's mentioned in this text. I am working on an assignment for my graduate class, and need something of substance to present. The main purpose of the assignment is to show how my family ended up in southwestern VA. I think this book would be an awesome attribute, if it does in fact give detail on the Goad's migration through VA. > > I saw on a post that you said you have copies since you are the author. I did not write a Goad book. Michael D Nestor is the closest thing we Goad descendants have to an expert. I believe his Goad research is sited on this website: http://www.thehennesseefamily.com/getperson.php?personID=I38463&tree=hennessee Plus I have this link for Michael's work on his website: www.mdnestor.com/goad/goad2452.html <http://www.mdnestor.com/goad/goad2452.html> You may be referring to a book by Kenneth F Haas, "The Goads: A Frontier Family," I believe Ken passed away about a year ago. Not sure how to get the book now if it is still available. I do have the name of Donna Bogue ( bogue@columbus.rr.com ) as "Goad Central." Plus a link for online info by her: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bogue/goad/goad.html <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/%7Ebogue/goad/goad.html> Don't believe I have looked carefully at Donna's work so I only provide it as a possible reference. You may find it interesting to look at this article. I believe the Shockleys & Goads accompanied the families described in this migration story from Tennessee to Arkansas: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bowen/americanbowen/ref17.htm Have also found some information linking my Goads & Shockleys to the Owens family discussed here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~owen2owens/owen2owens.htm <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/%7Eowen2owens/owen2owens.htm> I found a chart for the Owens at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~owen2owens/owenrichard1555.txt <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/%7Eowen2owens/owenrichard1555.txt> Sorry I couldn't help with the book, Charline Rambaud

    3. Alena, There is documentation of the Goads being in Richmond Co (which is not Richmond the city). Then you can find them in Bedford Co., Montgomery co., Wythe Co., Abraham Goad is the ancestor that 95 per cent of all Goads descend from. He was one of 13 children raised by Peter Goad, decorated civil war veteran, who was the son of Aaron Goad and Elizabeth Agnes Canady Hadden. Edwin was raised on his father Peter's farm in Xenia, IL. Edwin was the fifth child, but first to survive to adulthood. The family cemetery just outside of Xenia, close to the old homeplace, shows the tiny headstones of his siblings, many of whom succumbed as toddlers to malaria and pneumonia, although time has dimmed the etchings on the markers. He worked around the year as a farmer, railroad man and orchard manager. During his time as a young man, Southern Illinois was known for large, productive orchards. He was very fond of orchardry and gardening, and enjoyed doing the same at my grandparents' home inear Nameoki, later in his life, where I have fond memories of him. Like most of his generation and background, he was not one to sit and watch TV - he preferred to be outside. One of my favor! ite photos of him is as a young man, working his farm with a team of huge matched draft mules, the size of which you seldom see today. He was a handsome, vigorous and healthy man into his old age. Our extended family hunted his farm my whole childhood, as well as my early adult years after his death, and always had many family in the area - Sessions, Greenwoods, Goads and many others. We would take my grandmother Ora along with us so she could visit with all of her relations throughout the day while we bird hunted. We had many fond memories there. His sister Grace lived in his home for many years after his passing - not to be confused with his wife Gracie. Early in his life, after having five children with his wife Gracie Maude Bridges, he and Gracie had a falling out. I was told he insisted she leave over it and she did, for good. Edwin never remarried. My grandmother, Ora, was the oldest of those five children and overnight was responsible for caring for the house, helpin! g to care for and raise the four younger siblings and all that went al ong with that in the farm life of the early 1900s. She handled it well. She loved her siblings and kept them close, and was especially fond of Shell, her sister, every day of her life. She in turn married William Paschedag. Her brother Loren Goad, married William's sister, Regina Paschedag. I know all of the above to be true and can help you with more if you need it, in the manner and spirit as others have kindly helped me. All the best. dp Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
