William and Sarah may have had more than 3 children. The 1851 census shows another son John. I think Sarah might have died in 1845. Not all the Goachers originated in Sussex. The name seems to have developed independently in different parts of the country - at least three likely separate 'points of origin' have been found. Whitwell is about 30 or 40 miles from your area. Robert's father was William Goacher also born in Whitwell around 1800, married to Sarah Jenkins in 1824. I found 3 children, Robert (1826), Harriett (1824) and Reuben (1828). I imagine some way back our family trees do meet up, but how far I don't know. By all accounts the family seem to hail from Sussex. I'm looking in the Sheffield area. I've not had much luck with the censuses ( apart from the 1851) they seem to disappear after this. HI Lorn, I have been stuck researching my Goachers-I have a George Goacher, his daughter, Fanny, married Samuel Merrill in Adderley, (Shropshire). The marriage certificate said she was from Market Drayton (Shropshire). Fanny and Samuel were my 2nd great grandparents, their son Thomas emigrated to the US-Rochester, NY. I am looking for the parents of Maston M. Goatcher. He was married to a Mary Elizabeth Smithe Goatcher who was commonly known as Elizabeth. Maston was born in Alabama abt 1824, married Mary E. around August 1848 in Lawrence, Arkansas. Mary E. hailed from Tennessee. Mary E. remarried to a Kirkpatrick abt 1860 and have not been able to find what became of Maston. Any and all help or clues would be greatly appreciated. FYI Maston is my Great-Great Grandfather.
