Posted with the kind permission of the Listowner. You are cordially invited to visit www.familynotices.org, a totally non-commercial & privately-owned site. Following the death of a close family member, I was surprised at the charges levied by the local newspaper for posting just a small obituary. The same applies to birth, engagement, marriages notices et al. It made me think through the whole 'public notices' thing and I created FamilyNotices.org which is an on-line repository for all such, with no fees or charges to view, search or post. Unlike a newspaper this has the advantage of being world-wide, free and doesn't get thrown away! Please feel free to help yourself and post anything which is relevant and appropriate - and it doesn't have to be current. Details of 'Auntie Millie born in 1896' is just as relevant as a modern-day wedding notice. If you like it, please tell your friends, for anyone is welcome to post good news or sad news. .........& if you don't, just tell me! Cheers for now, Nigel ______________________________________________ FamilyNotices.org - the free online repository for all notices of Births, Deaths, Marriages, Engagements, Anniversaries and Missing Persons Doing it for free - unlike the newspapers ! Author: lrgoodger Surnames: Goodger/Goocher/Googer/Goacher/Gotcher/Guger Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goacher/60/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A DNA geneology project has been started for surnames Goodger/Goocher/Googer/Goacher/Gotcher/Guger at http://www.familytreedna.com/. Search for goodger and click the result. DNA test kits are group discounted for this project. There are several branches of Goodger descended from English immigrants of the 1800s. This branch is not one of them (although they are welcome to join this group as well - DNA may show a relationship farther back in time). This branch dates back to the earliest settlements in Virginia. We have records dating back to 1687, although the people in those records have not positively been connected with Martin Goodger. The main assemblage of our research dates back to the death of Martin Goodger/Goocher near Richmond, Virginia in 1799. He had six sons, five of which had sons of their own. We have confirmed Goodger, Goocher and Googer surnames for his descendants. We suspect the Gocher/Goucher clans listed in the 1790 and 1800 census' in the Pendleton area of South Carolina are related because that is where Martin's sons migrated to after his death. The spelling Goucher has been found in documents for some of our confirmed family members. Please join our DNA project with a 12 marker test for your male and help us sort out the relationships between these family surnames. Once the family groups are isolated, the test can be upgraded to 37 or even 64 markers to home in on the exact branch to which you belong. Thank you and best regards, Ron Goodger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Could your Thomas be a brother to my Maston M.? You would not happen to know Thomas J. fathers name? It would be interesting to find out if we have a common thread between our two families. But I do not have any info about a son named Thomas J. from this marriage. If you have any more info perhaps we can compare notes?
