    3. Hello listers. Can anyone help me with a family ancestor puzzle ? Harriett Pick married Robert Call in Clifton, Bristol in 1820. I have good information on Robert ( birth to death) and good information about Harriett and their children from 1820 onwards. But I am having difficulty with Harriett's birth and hence her ancestors. All census records for Harriett give her birthplace as Bramham or Boston, Yorks ( both close to Wetherby) and a birthdate of about 1798. No baptism for Harriett was found when searches were made for me in the Bramham/Boston parish registers - though several Pick families , mostly stonemasons, lived there at that time. But the IGI does give a Harriett Pick baptism in September 1797 in CROMHALL, Gloucs. Two other baptisms for the same parents, William Pick and Elizabeth Pick ( possibly nee Burley ), are listed ie Elizabeth Pick bap Aug 1799 Cromhall and Elizabeth Pick (again) bap May 1811 Cromhall. I noted that there are several other Pick families living in the Cromhall area at that time. I am wondering if "my" Harriett Pick was born in Bramham but then baptised shortly afterwards in Cromhall eg to parents who moved from Yorkshire to Gloucs. Two specific queries : 1. Does anyone have access to the full baptism record for Harriett Pick 12 Sep 1797 Cromhall ? It might help me. 2. Does anyone know of any link between the Yorkshire ( Wetherby area) PICKS and the Gloucestershire ( Cromhall, Berkeley area) PICKS ? Thanks Ian Logan ianlogan@btopenworld.com

Hi Ian, It's a very long shot and probably a red herring, but the clue may lie in quarrying. You say there were PICK families in Yorkshire who were stonemasons. Well, there were quarries in the Cromhall area. The PICK family goes back a long way in Cromhall. John PICK died on 29th. August 1705, aged 55, and Elizabeth, his wife, died on 12th. March 1723 aged 70. Josephine -- Josephine's Books, Ian's Pages, The Clutton 'Do' and the Glamorganshire Canal. http://www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
