My Mum has just found some documents regarding my paternal Grandfather slipped between the pages of a very old book. One is what looks like a certificate, signed by Winston Churchill, saying that my Grandfather was mentioned in dispatches for 'galantry (& something else, but I cant remember the exact wording) in the field'. I know he was in the army for 9yrs ... I know this from a letter of reference written by his CO, recommending him to a prospective employer ... & I also found a medal index card (?) reference online, which shows that he was in both Italy & Syria during WWI. The documents I have give regiments, ranks & numbers ... different number in each regiment, is that right? What Id like to know is what information is available to me regarding his service, & where would I apply to get it? TIA H
