HI Liz, I have already sent Kathryn the information about the death of Tamar GILLMAN. In the Shortwood Burial Book it adds (or SMITH) against her name. Kathryn has information that there was a Tamar who had two children baptised at Horsley Parish Church with the surname, SMITH. Both were baptised in October 1789, although born five years apart. They are said to be base born i.e illegitimate. According to the register of Horsley Residents 1811-15 there is a Thomas GILLMAN, who I would guess to be Tamar's husband, a weaver, living in a household with four males and four females. This means that he was alive at the time of the baptisms and the couple were married in 1785.... [Maybe it is not the same Thomas GILLMAN]. I have suggested that there could be something in the records of the Overseers of the Poor and other parish records. There might be reference to Bastardy payments or something. TURKs appear in the Shortwood Burial Book up to 1988 so ther might still be relatives in the area.... There are a number of TEAKLEs in the Horsley 1811-15 document but no TURKs. It could be that they lived in the parts of Nailsworth that were in the parishes of MInchinhampton or Avening. There are only three TURKs in the Shortwood Members' Book. I wonder if Tamar's father was Thomas TURK. He was excluded [again] in 1750..... Cheers, Janet Heskins
