    3. Hi Elizabeth, Thank you very much for your help. Eliza and Sarah are sisters of John ABSALOM who had the grocers shop in Cheltenham. When John went to Australia in March 1891, also on board was John ABSALOM aged 22. When this yough fellow married in South Australia in 1895, he gave his age as 24, and his name as John Allen ABSALOM. He said his father's name was was Austin ABSALOM. My team of researchers have never found either in any English records. So who was his father and who was his mother? I have spent hours trying find out. I am now pursuing any evidence that Eliza, Sarah or John were in Gloucestershire 1868-71. I have a possible mother and a possible father. But I need more evidence! 3. Whilst at work today [Chelt. Ref Library] I looked at some old trade directories and found that the 22 Winchcombe Street property mentioned as the shop of J Absolem was in ownership/tenure of Alfred Trusted between 1859-77 and he was a grocer/tea dealer. There is a gap in the directories held and J Absolems first mention is in 1880, and was there for 10 years his last listing appearing in 1890. Jacksons took over, and in another book there is a photo of the shop, named as Jacksons, on the corner with Albion Street, in a state of disrepair. I could do a copy if wanted. I didn't find any more Absolems listed. 3. Thank you, Elizabeth. Yes, I do know of this family. John Knight was the son of John ABSALOM snr who went to Australia in 1891. I do not know who her partner was, but she may have been referring to John absalom, her son-in-law. Her daughter, Hester had died recently.
