    2. Hello Geoff, The person in question could have been a commercial traveller at the time in question. In my current research in to manufacturing families it was the custom to take samples of the products to potential purchasers. This is in connection with both the woollen industry and brewing. The traveller in 1841 would travel by horse power but the railways were now coming in. I don't know for sure but this could well mean a change in the employment of a 'traveller'.
