    3. Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me. A cousin has found a reference to a will of James PUMFREY dated 1550 on IGI and we were wondering if anyone knows where we might obtain a copy of this will. I have tried the National Archives and the Gloucester wills index with no luck. If someone is able to point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Regards Eveline

    3. Hi, Unfortunately the information on the IGI just says that a will was written on that date but it doesn't mean that the will is still in existance. It might have been written when he married or reached his full age and had possessions to leave. It might be worth asking at both sources if there is a later will. At this time wills were "owned" by the church and seem to be entered on church records but I have never found an original record. If land was owned in more than one county the will would probably have been proved at the PCCanterbury and the will if still in existance would be at the PRO in Kew with a computer copy at the FRC in Islington. If all was within Glos the Glos Records Office should have a copy. Got caught on this one myself! Good luck, Katherine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eveline Clarke" <aclarke22@toucansurf.com> To: <gloucester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2007 2:15 PM Subject: [GLS] WILLS > Hi > > I was wondering if anyone can help me. > > Regards > > Eveline > _____________________________________________ > > Browse the list archives at: > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GLOUCESTER/ > > Keyword search - any or all lists: > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GLOUCESTER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Thanks Katherine. There was nothing on the Canterbury site. Not what I was looking for on the Kew site either, but there was a lot of other interesting Pumfrey facts which I have made a note of. Thanks once again. 3. Just a thought - If the normal avenues for Wills does not show one - it is just possible that a copy Will may be found with the deeds of a property to establish ownership I have seen copies of early wills included in deed bundles of a much later date. The other problem is the spelling of the surname - be imaginative here - PUMFREY, PUMFREE, POMFREY, PUMFRY, POMFRY, PUMPHRY, POMPHRY etc etc or even HUMPHREY! Good Luck!
