Janet, Josephine Thank you for your information. I will follow up your leads. I have also managed to locate the GG Grand daughter of Emily Hay Cridland's father by his first wife. It looks as if the help I have been given has demolished this wall. Incidentally, it appears that the link to Light was a red herring so if anyone else is following this enquiry please note that it looks like Emily's mother was not Emily Light. Thank you everybody who contacted me on or off board. On FreeBMD there is a birth registration for a Richard CRIDLAND in the March qtr 1863 at Williton reg district, vol 5c, page 405. According to Genuki, Williton reg district covers Sampford Brett which is very close to Stream. If you send for Richard's birth certificate, it should give you Emily snr's maiden name plus his father's name which would then enable you to prove whether the marriage of Thomas & Emily you have found is the correct one. Good luck. Hi Geoff, I am puzzled why you think that the CRIDLAND link to LIGHT was a red herring and disappointed that you haven't commented on the FOTHERGILL link, which I gave you. I spent a lot of time yesterday establishing that Emily FOTHERGILL, baptized in 1829 in Pucklechurch, was the Emily CRIDLAND of the 1881 census whom you said was born in Pucklechurch in 1829. As this Emily FOTHERGILL married Isaac LIGHT in 1846 there seemed to be a likely link with the Emily LIGHT whom you you mentioned marrying Thomas CRIDLAND in 1862.
