Hello Gerald and List, I think we may have Sarah BOUGHTON in the 1861 census RG 9/ 1802/46/30 transcribed as Sarah BALTON. Information kindly sent to me by Jean Normington. The lady which Gerald has mentioned here. Jean has gotten in touch with me. It does not put us any closer to Sarah's family, but so very pleased she has been found in 1861. ( not 1841 yet ) Things seem to point to this being the right girl. I have not found a Sarah BALTON from Stanton, Worcestershire in any of the other census. Thank you all so very much. Hi list, just to show you how Ancestry get things wrong. In 1861 census my John & Sophia BOUGHTON are listed as. John & Sophia Doughtone. Regards David
On Ancestry, when you get to the page that lists the details of the person, there is a spot that says something about listing an alternative name. You can click on that, and fill in the change on that page. Shortly after that, when you search for that name it will show up, and if someone searches Doughtone, the alternate name will show with that also. I have done that with some of my family names. Handwriting is sometimes hard to decipher especially for less common names. When you know the details of a family and where they should be, you can recognize the name easier than someone who is reading all of the names. Best to you in your research.
