    3. To Pat & Josephine Thank you so much for the answer to my query and also for the valuable information - another important entry I can add to my tree - it is very much appreciated. Have just done a search on the net re St.John the Baptist Church, Gloucester and a number of entries appear seemingly for different locations. Can anyone tell me if the church is still standing and exactly where it may be - I was hoping I might locate a photograph. New to research in Gloucester I will certainly follow up the website for the GFHS. Hope you wont mind another question. How would I go about viewing the original entry of the marriage? Kind regards Joan in Victoria, Australia.

    3. Hello Joan, When you search for St John the Baptist Church, Gloucester just be careful that you get the church in Gloucester itself and not one of the others in other parts of Gloucestershire. This site looks helpful http://www.glosgen.co.uk/gloucester/gloster2.htm St. John's Church, Northgate St., on the corner of St. John's lane. A church is reputed to have existed on this site from 931. The church was rebuilt in the 11th century and dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The foundation stone for the present church was laid 1 June 1732, and the first service performed in 1734. The new church incorporated a 14th century tower and steeple from the old church. The spire was removed in 1910, and now resides in St. Lucy's garden, just around the corner from the church. The church was renamed St. Johns Northgate in 1972 when the congregation entered into a sharing agreement with Northgate Methodist Chapel. Registers 1558-1974 lodged with GRO. Perhaps someone with more local knowledge can help with a photograph? 3. I have a photograph of the modern St John the Baptist church - will send it off-list. It is now, and has been for as long as I can remember, a Methodist church.
