Hi Folks I've purchased 2nd hand 'A History of Bristol & Gloucestershire' by Brian Smith & Elizabeth Ralph. Couldn't resist thumbing through it before I read it properly.... There is an interesting picture of an engraving of five boys who were trapped in the above coal pit in 1833 "by the breaking in of water .... for six nights and days entirely destitute of food ". The engraving was sold to provide funds to apprentice the lads to a safer trade. Their names were: Stephen Hill, Daniel Poole, George Garland, Charles Lewis & Isaac Britain. Regards Dave Napier
