With regard to 'Gloucestershire SMITHs' I would very much like to know what became of the family of Solomon SMITH. He was the schoolmaster of Horsley School at a time towards the middle of the nineteenth century. I believe that he was born nearby, Kings Stanley or Stonehouse. He married Elizabeth HESKINS, who became his assistant at the school. Solomon was one of the census takers in Horsley for the 1851 census [I think]. His children included Seymour SMITH, an unusual name. I cannot find any mention of Solomon or Seymour SMITH beyond 1851 so wonder if the family emigrated. Elizabeth HESKINS had an illegitimate daughter, Jane, who was brought up by her grandparents to believe that they were her actual parents. [The father was George HUMPHRIES] Jane married in London and I have not tried as yet to follow her line. Any sightings of Solomon et.al would be most helpful. Cheers, Janet Heskins
