Hello I have a marriage cert for my grandparents which says they were married in the parish church in the parish of Painswick Slad in 1895. I had thought these were two different parishes. At that time would this be the church of St Mary's in Painswick or the church Holy Trinity in Slad? Their residence at the time was simply stated as Slad Road and I am not certain where this would be, either, but assume it is the one from Slad to Stroud. Or is/was there one so-named from Slad to Painswick? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks Mal
Hi Mal The book 'Bristol and Gloucester Parish Records' states that the Slad, Holy Trinity, ecclesiastical parish was formed from Painswick in 1844. So, in 1895, the marriage would have been in Slad. I don't think they would have put the Slad name in if the marriage had occurred in the Painswick church.
