Hi Joan, I had a look at the censuses for a George HUNT born abt 1839 with parents Thomas and Charlotte and came up with one possible in 1841 and 1851. Transcriptions copied below. If you think this is your family and would like the census images just let me know. I have my great grandfather George Hunt who married in Kingston, Ontario in 1868 Margaret Lester. His parents are suppose to be Thomas Hunt & Charlotte Appleton as per their marriage registration, he was in the Royal Artillery from England, saying he was born in Newington, England. He was born 22 Oct 1839 recorded in a bible. Now I can prove none of it!!! I have tried everything to try and get some proof on his parentage or his birth. I have tried many Newingtons in England looking at films either ordered in or at LDS in Salt Lake City, USA, no baptism, no birth certificate can I find. Plymouth is where his battalion was stationed before going to Ionian Islands and Malta before coming to Canada. Have tried familysearch.com, searched many Newington areas, contacted Appleton researchers still no luck. Now a new discovery for me in looking in my "The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers" County by County I find a "Newington Bagpath" in Gloucester so I am hoping this might be the Newington area he is from as my Murphy-Stutfield connection is in Bristol I have just discovered. Can anyone offer any suggestions or help? Thank you, Joan Hedberg from Canada _____________________________________________ Have you considered adding "postems" to "your" events on www.freebmd.org.uk , giving your contact details?
