The children of Robert and Esther SKEATES were baptised at Christ Church, Bristol. The full information can be found in the original register or by using the CD of Bristol baptisms 1813-1837 published by the Bristol & Avon FHS for the modest price of £8. The Bristol City parishes are very close together and families could easily move between churches. The other index CDs published by the Society, especially those for marriages, show that couples often travelled considerable distances to get married in the church of their choice, or for particular personal reasons. Information about the CDs can be found at www.bafhs.org.uk under "Shop". His likely parents are Robert SKEATES and Esther BAYLIS who were married 31 Jan 1825 in Christ Church, Bristol, Gloucester, England. When he was married in 1853 at Holy Trinity, St. Philip, Bristol, his father was listed as Robert Skeates, Accountant. In that same year, Robert Skeates was the Church Warden. In the 1851 and 1861 census, he said that he was born in Bristol, St James. I have looked at the film for Bristol, St. James for the time period and found only one or two entries, and they were not for his family. Any assistance in this search would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Carolyn Harmon
