    3. Hi, I have located the London Gazette on-line (http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/) "THE COURT FOR RELIEF OF INSOLVENT DEBTORS. Saturday the 24th day of June 1843. ORDERS have been made, vesting in the Provisional Assignee the Estates and Effects of the following Persons-: On their own Petitions. William Pelling, late of Abbotshara-place Stapleton-road, in the city of Bristol, Foreman and Conductor of the business of Harriet Pelling, of College-green, Bristol aforesaid, Hair Dresser and Perfumer.-In the Gaol of Bristol." Now would there be records of the Gaol of Bristol? I have not located the death of Harriet PELLING but she was in the 1841 census but I have not found her in the 1851 census. William PELLING and his sister Harriet PELLING dissolved their partnership in October 1840. But this sounds like after dissolving the partnership i.e. Harriet retired and William kept the business going. I'm guessing it then went "bad". What sort of gaol term would owing money in a failed business give? I do notice 5 children born to his wife after 1843 so I am guessing not too long!! :-) Thank you for any direction/ advice Regards, Pat Wade (Nee King)
