Thanks Sparrer, that's very useful and will certainly give it a go. Regards Diana [email protected] wrote: > Hi all, > > Can anyone help me? Find his death in the War Dead on www.findmypast.com and order the certificate through the GRO in the normal way. It'll cost 7GBP the same as any other. Just follow the instructions but remember the reference won't be in the same format as you'll be used to for normal BMDs. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ It probably won't tell you much other than he died of injuries received whilst in the service of His Majesty or words to that effect. _____________________________________________
Hello Diana I hate to be a pessimist but I feel that I should warn you that you are likely to be disappointed with the death certificate when you receive it. The place of death is likely to be shown as "France & Flanders" (= The Western Front), and the cause of death is likely to simply read "On war service", or words to that effect, and even his date of death will not necessarily be accurate. The reason for all this is that a major war being fought and, with roughly, on average, about 300,000 to be recorded per annum there simply wasn't time to go into all the accurate details. Sorry!
