    1. [GLS] THOMAS Chalford

    3. John THOMAS b 1813 son of William THOMAS and Ann SELBY.Chalford.  John later became a sculpter and architect and biographies state that he was orphaned at the age of thirteen. Johns brother Richard Selby Thomas is commemorated in Chalford Parish Church with a memorial by his John. He had two sisters Ann and Elizabeth who married and moved to Stroud and an architect brother William who moved to Birmingham then Canada. Another brother Robert moved to Oxford. If John was orphaned at 13 yrs then William or Ann must have died around 1826 but I cannot trace a death for either. Can anyone suggest any sources for deaths in Gloucestershire for that period. Some of the family were christened in Bisley and some in Minchinhampton. Any help appreciated.David Thomas

    3. Hi David This website http://www.glosgen.co.uk/stroudarea.htm#Chalford lists 4 Thomas's with memorial inscriptions in the church, one being William. Obviously wrong date for the father, and not the brother if he went to Canada. I wonder if the BGAS edition of Biglands Memorials will have any of them in, if any other lister has the volume A-D on their book shelf.
