Hello List After a long gap I have decided to see whether anyone can help with my brick wall. I have Samuel BROWNING born abt 1792-6 in Gloucestershire according to the 1841 census, and in Cheltenham according to the 1851 census. He was living in Cheltenham with his wife Elizabeth Harris on both occasions and she was born in Gloucester city c 1788. They married in 1812 in Upton upon Severn. I have the baptisms and deaths of all their children and the couple spent all their married life in Tewkesbury, Gloucester and Cheltenham. I have investigated all the baptisms from Cheltenham and around and there is no Samuel. The other Samuel BROWNINGs around Gloucestershire have all been investigated and scored off for one reason or another, leaving only the Samuel BROWNING the illegitimate son of Sarah BROWNING who was baptised in Frampton upon Severn in 1792. The problem is that I have no further information about this Samuel so I can’t positively identify him. My Samuel always worked at manual jobs such as labouring, rope making, gardening etc. His marriage was just after the completion of the towpath in Upton upon Severn leading me to believe that perhaps he had been working on that and was then able to afford to get married. Has anyone any further information on the BROWNING family of Frampton or any ideas for further research which could help me to decide whether this is ‘my Samuel’? Thank you for any help. Hello Joyce What were the names of their children and where were they born? Where exactly are they during the census periods?
