Wendy GLS List Admin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear all A catalogue of the large and significant archive of the Hicks Beach family of Coln St Aldwyn (Gloucestershire) and Netheravon (Wiltshire) is now available online and in the searchroom at Gloucestershire Archives. The catalogue has been produced as a result of a fifteen-month project, funded by the National Cataloguing Grants Scheme for Archives. The collection includes records of the family's two main estates, Williamstrip in Coln St Aldwyn, and the Netheravon estate on the edge of Salisbury Plain, records of other family estates in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and the Oakley Hall estate in Hampshire, family and personal papers of many members of the family, and records of official positions held by various family members, including the political and personal papers of Sir Michael Edward Hicks Beach, first Earl St Aldwyn, who held various offices in government in the late 19th century and was Chancellor of the Exchequer twice in the 1880s and 1890s. The catalogue can be found on Gloucestershire Archives' online catalogue here: http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqIni=DServeA.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqSearch=(AltRefNo='d2455') The project blog can be found here: http://staldwynarchive.blogspot.com Best wishes Karen Cooke (project archivist) ******************************************* Karen Cooke Archivist Gloucestershire Archives Gloucestershire County Council karen.cooke@gloucestershire.gov.uk Gloucestershire Archives, Clarence Row, Alvin Street, Gloucester GL1 3DW Website: www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/archives
