In researching my daughter's maternal line I have found one of her ancestors, William TONKIN b.c1841 in Cornwall, married in Bristol 1869 to Jane WILTSHIRE b. c1851 in Frampton Cottrell, Gloucester. I duly sent off for this marriage certificate yesterday. Jane had two children and then the whole family travelled out to Victoria, Australia in late 1871 where a further four children were born and Jane died in 1880. I looked for and found a birth for Jane WILTSHIRE registered in the December Qtr 1851 in Chipping Sodbury which I presume his hers but I will obtain the certificate to prove this is so. In in the mean time I looked for Jane in the 1861 Census and found (I presume this is the correct one) her age 9 with siblings, Albert age 6, Sarah Ann age 4 and Emily age 2 and parents Moses age 32 an Ag. Lab. and Ellen age 28, both born in Frampton Cottrell, living on Frampton Common, Frampton Cottrell. I have looked in Family Search and found the following marriage for Moses WILTSHIRE to Ellen TOVEY on the 12th January 1851 in Frampton Cottrell. I am hoping this is the correct marriage for the above couple. I have not found the births for Ellen TOVEY and Moses WILTSHIRE yet! I have also looked at the 1871 and 1881 Census and found another three sons, Henry, Charles and William. All this of course is moot till I get the marriage certificate for William and Jane to see who their respective fathers were. Is there anyone out there researching this family and any suggestions on where I should look next would be appreciated. Colin in a very damp Brisbane, Qld!
