Hi Steve, I did as you suggested in the message to Pat. The first name to come upon my search was Thomas HESKINS, son of John, husbandman, born 1567. After that there was no one named HESKINS but several people who had been transcribed as HOSKINS. I believe that the transcription is incorrect because, from other sources, I know that there was a HESKINS presence in North Nibley but have never come across HOSKINS. In 1623 Nicholas HOSKINS is said to have been born. This surely is Nicholas HESKINS who became mayor of Wotton-under-Edge. He is a part of my lineage as, I assume, are the others transcribed as HOSKINS. In a transcription of the Wotton-under-Edge parish records at the research centre inthe town I found that HESKINS had been transcribed at STEPHENS. That sounds unlikely but the two names look similar in seventeenth century script. I spotted the name EASTMEAD amongst the north Nibley baptisms. Henry Matthew HESKINS married Lucy EASTMEAD in the mid nineteenth century, but their ancestors were from North Nibley three centuries before... best regards, Janet Heskins
