The Family History Library Catalog only lists Miserden records up to 1812. The IGI has christenings for Elizabeth and Mary Ann Nichols in Miserden on 15 February 1846. The father is listed as James Nichols, the mother as Hannah. It is an entry that was submitted by a patron. Is the name of the mother correctly transcribed? What was the residence and the occupation of the father? The names of the girls seem to match with the names in a census record for 2 females who are listed on the Gloucester Birth Index as children of Sarah Ludlow, which is a part of my family. Elizabeth was a female in the March 1840 quarter, and Mary Ann was a female in the September 1844 quarter. The James Nichols who married Sarah Ludlow was christened in Miserden in 1811. Here is the 1851 census entry. Registration district: Gloucester Sub-registration district: St John the Baptist ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Household schedule number: 99 Piece: 1962 Folio: 84 Page Number: 29 Household Members: Name Age James Nicholls 39 Gloucestershire, England Sarah Nicholls 39 Gloucestershire, England Elizabeth Nicholls 11 daughter Gloucestershire, England Mary A Nicholls 6 daughter, Gloucestershire, England There are 2 older siblings who were christened in Miserden, with a residence of Caudle Green in Brimpsfield parish: Samuel, christened 25 Dec 1833, and John christened 12 Feb 1837. I have the birth certificate of a younger sibling, Ellen Nichols who was born in Gloucester, where the family lived in 1851: Births Mar 1852 Nichols Ellen Gloster 6a 233 Birth in the subdistrict of St John the Baptist, in the City and County of Gloucester. No 28. When and where born: 1 Feb 1852. 77 Barton Street Name: Ellen Father's name: James Nichols Mother's name: Sarah Nichols, formerly Ludlow. Occupation of father: Labourer. Informant: X the mark of Sarah Nichols, mother, 77 Barton Street, Gloucester. Registered: 23 Feb 1852. Registrar: John Oakley Baker, Registrar. There was a James Nichols who married Hannah Morgan 10 April 1842 in Churchdown. That James Nichols was a tailor and his father was James Nichols, Soap Boiler, (deceased). On the Gloucester Birth Index, there seem to be 2 children of this couple, Sarah Ann in 1842, in Stroud Dursley, Wotton-under-Edge and Margaret in 1843, in Gloucester Gloucester, South Hamlet Any help in solving this would be appreciated. Thank you.
