    3. Just a thought... If your ships to Canada may also have had New York as a landing port, the Ellis Island site, ellisisland.org, has photos of ships. You might find yours there. You may need to register but it is free. Go to the drop down menu from Passenger Search and go from there. Janice

    3. You could try the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich (London). They have a vast collection of photos and may be able to help. If they do have a modern photo of any given ship the cost is not very much. But... if they have only an old photo, which needs to be reproduced using modern methods / technology the cost of a copy is considerably more. Unfortunately the only way of finding out is to contact them and ask. To do this Google "National Maritime Museum" and follow the on-screen links / instructions. Hope this helps, Ken. These sites could be worth a try: www.nmm.ac.uk/ (National Maritime Museum) www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/Emigrationmain.html and www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/maritime/ London, Southampton and Plymouth were also departure points as well as Bristol and Liverpool. It cold be worth joining the London or Middlesex, Hampshire, Devon and Lancashire lists. Someone on them may know of local sources not available online or nationally. The Game Act 1831 can be found here. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Will4/1-2/32 I suppose to have a licence the person would have to prove to a magistrate that they owned/rented the land on which game was to be hunted or that they were employed as a gamekeeper by the landowner/occupant. 1. [GLS] Game Certificates
    2. The Gloucester Journal listed those who had purchased Game Certificates in the nineteenth century. The list for September 22nd 1823 included the name of Isaac ISAAC, whose daughter, Ann, married Henry Matthew HESKINS. The charge to Isaac ISAAC, of Wickwar, was £3-13s-6d. The list includes the names of landed gentry, people with a position in society and large scale farmers. Amongst those also listed are Robert KINGSCOTE of Kingscote and Rev Anthony KECK, vicar of Horsley. As far as I can establish Isaac ISAAC had a moderately sized farm. His name does not appear in earlier or later Game Certificate lists. Maybe there was some type of game that was causing a problem on his farm for which he needed a licence. The Gloucester Journal also has a list of gamekeepers, such as John LOVEGROVE, for Edward SHEPPARD Esq, Mincinhampton and Avening [an owner of a considerable amount of property]. The lists were published in the late summer and early autumn of each year. Is anyone aware of the significance of a Game Certificate? Cheers, Janet Heskins
