    3. Hi, Do you know that the Dunn,Donne, Dwnn family were a large South Wales family, they held Kidwelli Castle for the King, were supporters of Richard III and that the Chatsworth Tryptych in the National Gallery is a painting of Sir John Dwnn and his family. It was painted around 1500. There are quite a number of Dwnn (any spellings) wills still in existance at NLW at Aberystwyth. 3. Hello, can someone /anyone please tell me where I can look now for a birth for *Thomas *Porter (2) without knowing his mothers maiden name .All the Certificates I have applied for from Bristol area don't have Harriett as the mother and without it how can I be sure that I do have the right Thomas ...there are so may of them. Lindsay Thomas Porter (1) was born in Bruton, Somerset. Abt. 1820 (christened in Bruton.Somerset. 27^th February 1820) died 1899 in Bristol. Father: Charles Porter. Occ: Laborer Mother: Jane Porter (maiden name: Meadon) Married: 1.5.1817. in Bruton. He is listed in 1851 census at Castle Cary. Somerset. PORTER Thomas.(1) Lodger. 28. Unmarried. Sawyer. Bruton. Somerset. Married:* Harriett *(supposedly) born abt. 1823 in St Nicholas or Clifton, Bristol I have written to GRO and they cannot find a marriage for 1852-1857 in England or Wales Their son *Thomas*(2) was born in Bristol 1854-1857 - died: 28.4.1903 (have death cert) I have searched various sites and also applied for several birth certificates for this *Thomas* hoping to find his mother, Harriett but have not had any luck which makes me wonder if she maybe had another Christian name she used when/if she married although all the census records from 1861 onwards just have her as Harriett. Harriett and Thomas (age 6) are on 1861 census living at 11 Rose St, Redcliffe, Bristol. But I cannot find Thomas senior anywhere on the 1861 census although they are together on 1871, 1881, 1891, and Harriet appears as a widow in 1901. **Thomas **(2) married Mary Ann Gainey 21.2.1881 at St Augustine the Less parish church, Bristol (have cert) Children were: Thomas R: 1882 Albert Edward 1883 (grandfather) married Harriett Mary Ann Sweet 26.12.1903 (have cert) Alfred: 1885 Ellen: 1889

    3. Hi Margery, Have you tried the Mortuary Chapel on Bisley Road, it is sited on the Southern slope of Stroud Hill, and is now a Nature reserve, some areas are overgrown. It originally had 2 chapels with a spire erected on the site, as well as an entrance lodge. The ground was consecrated on the 1st September 1856 and the first interment took place on the 4th September. There were 130 tombs or other monumental memorials in this cemetery, and 1500 burials over a period of thirteen years and four months. You pass the hospital as you head out of Stroud to get to the cemetery, which also fits with what you have been previously told. The only thing I havent managed to find so far is the Llewellyn family plot, but I have this name in my husbands family tree so I am curious to see if there is a connection as they all hail from the Stroud area. The Primitive Chapel at Parliament street was being used as a theatre playhouse in 1999, not sure what it is used for now but it is minutes away from the Hospital and cemetery, they are all in very close proximity to each other. Could this be the one you are looking for? If I find anything more I will be in touch Kind Regards Jules ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margery Whitham" <margery@whitham.name> To: <gloucester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 16, 2007 10:11 AM Subject: Re: [GLS] Chapel in Stroud. > Thank you, Jules, and I'm sorry I was so vague with my request. 3. I've checked online and it looks like your friend has been offered a special version of the genealogy programme, Family Tree Maker. FTM had a product tie in with the first series of the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? Looks like it was marketed by the firm Serif. Serif Extra is where they advertise special offers. Their current website doesn't have the Family Tree Maker programme advertised, I found it by going to the cache. BTW he isn't being offered a discount. I'm not familiar with FTM, but it is popular. Your friend might like to try some of the free download programmes first ( eg. Legacy or PAF), as he has already entered information into Genes Reunited, he can transfer it to the new programme via gedcom.
