    3. Hi Ann I doesn't quite go that way! My James Tovey 1742 born in Preston is the Son of a James Tovey and Jane Palmer. James Tovey married Anne Deverell 1765 in Minchinhampton. Anne is the daughter of Thomas Deverell and Mary Heaven. Mary Heaven/Haven born 1705 is the daughter of Samuel Heaven and Agnes Craddock. Some of James Tovey and Anne Deverell's great grandchildren (Gaston family) did go to Austriala Maybe this is close enough to count? Regards Carolyn

    3. Hi, We have a possible Aunt who was a Mary Josephine Trotman, she was born in Stroud in 1874 and had a sister Katherine Ann born in Stroud in 1876. Their mother was Mary Jones born in Onibury nr Ludlow and christened in 1838-9. This lady was always referred to as Aunt by my Father's generation but I have not yet found a family connection. At best it will be distant. 2. Janet, Yes, I did that too. I got over 6000 hits with the name Wall, so I put it in under genealogy and only got 245. About half of them were about walls being built, repaired and falling but the rest did have the surname Wall and in Tewksbury! Since it was a tight knit community back in the 1700 and early 1800's, I consider all of them potential relatives and am keeping them until I can find them in births, deaths and Wills through the FH Center's later. 1. Re: [GLS] Use of A2A...an example.
    2. Hello Patricia, A2A is Access to Archives. It is provided by the National Archives, Kew. The site provides a search facility that will/might tell the searcher where a document is located that contains the word or phrase entered in terms of the Archives that have submitted information. The name of the Archive Office is provided and references to the documents located are provided. An extract from the document, with the dearch term highlighted in yellow is provided. Sometimes this gives all the information that you might need without having to gain access to the original document. I hope that I have covered everything but surnames names that are also places or objects cause problems.... Cheers, Janet Heskins

Hi David, I have a little BIDMEAD information, but whether it connects with your Glamorgan BIDMEAD family, I don't know. I haven't done any further research on this line. Lucy DEY, the sister of my husband's great-grandmother, Annie L. DEY, married a BIDMEAD. Lucy DAY (sic), a 19-year-old spinster, and bachelor, William BIDMEAD, 21, were married, by banns, on 26th. January 1893 at the church of St. John the Baptist, Ystradyfodwg. Lucy's father was recorded as James DAY, while William's father was Alfred BIDMEAD. 2. Hi Jeff, I don't know if any other insurance company's records are on A2A apart from Sun Insurance. They have been around for a long time. You may have seen the brass sun symbols with a number below in old buildings. The records are held at Guildhall Library. Extracts from their archives are on A2A, so that is how I found them. I followed up my own suggestion by looking up the partner of William HESKINS, John MUMFORD. He continued in business longer than William, which gives me an indication of when William dropped out of the frame [died?] - about 1826, Best wishes with your search. Janet Heskins

    1. [GLS] Use of A2A...an example.
    2. Hi Janet, I can understand your problem with the names WALL and LAND.... I tried putting the surname, WINDOW, in to A2A and had references to all sorts of glassy things, people breaking them and falling out of them but no surname references. I then tried putting in 'blacksmith' and that was a little more productive. I wonder if there is a way round the problem of a surname that is also the name of an object or a place. On Google it can be overcome to some extent by entering the name plus genealogy but A2A asks for an exact phrase. One source that I would not have come across apart from A2A is the Sun Insurance Company records. William HESKINS, who must have come from Horsley in my reckoning [as a William was born there, travelled to London frequently according to the parish records, and was not buried in Horsley] appears several times as being in partnership in a lace warehouse establishment. From these records, 1820's and thereabouts, it is possible to gain information on his partnrers in the business, where he lived, his status and probably his year of death. The latter by finding out if the names of partners continues after his disappears from the records. I haven't done that yet as it has only occured to me as I write.... Cheers, Janet Heskins
