    1. [GLS] BROWN
    2. Hi all Is anyone out there researching the BROWN family from Bisley late 1700s onwards? I'm specifically interested in a Maria BROWN born in Bisley c.1812 She married Jacob SEXTON in Bisley on 2nd Sept 1835. 1. The IGI suggests her father may have been a Thomas BROWN but gives no mother's name. I see there was a Thomas and Lucy BROWN in that area baptising children around that time - but obviously can't jump to conclusions! 2. I have seen a tree for someone else researching the family that seems to suggest Maria's parents were Thomas BROWN and Sarah SMITH - although they could not verify this and did not have any specific data either for Maria's christening or Thomas and Sarah's marriage. I've checked the GFHS site and see the registers seem to only go back to 1813 for Bisley? I assume they do actually go back further than that? or were Bisley people baptised somewhere else prior to that date? I see there are non-conformist baptisms for Bisley going back further - anyone know if there are any Browns on that? I am happy to buy either or both CDs if they might contain my BROWN family - but would appreciate any insight from those that already have them as to whether I might strike lucky?! Any thoughts appreciated, as I'd really like to connect Maria up with her BROWN family. 1. Re: [GLS] GLOUCESTER Digest, Vol 2, Issue 165
    2. Hi Ann, My Wall line is from Tewksbury (William WALL) born 1791. His parents were John WALL and Nancy unknown. William is later found in Slaughterford, Wiltshire (not too far away) married to Elizabeth unknown born 1786 in Wiltshire. He was a farmer. They have at least 3 sons William (19), Thomas (15) and Richard (10) on the 1841 census. Richard WALL later moved to Breconshire, Wales and was a miner. He married Naomi Stephens and their son William WALL married Elizabeth TRUSCOTT and they were the parents of my grandfather, Alban Truscott WALL. It was said that William left his family to go to America to look for gold in California. Alban Truscott WALL came to Pennsylvania, USA with his TRUSCOTT grandparents in 1887 when he was 5. He worked in the coal miner's there from the age of 10 until he was disabled with Black Lung at around 45-50 yrs. old. Imagine being only 50 yrs. old and already having 40 years of work under your belt!!!! I head from another list member that Tewksbury was a tight knit town in the period that my WALL family lived there. I am assuming that most or all of the WALLS from there at that time are related in some way to my family. It was kind of like the small town that I grew up in Pennsylvania. I don't know too much about the WALLS because of the abandonment of my 2nd ggf William WALL so it is very possible that my WALL family from Tewksbury spread all around the world where ever England had a strong hold. It reminds me of the last scene in "How Green Was MY Valley." The author was showing his Mother a world map and locating for her the places that her children had gone. South African, South America, USA and Australia. It made me sad to see this close family spread all over the world, especially when travel was only possible by a long sea voyage. I sure would love to other WALL families from the Tewksbury and Slaughterford are. Any WALL information from this area would be very much appreciated.
