    1. [GLS] Thomas Hudd St Georges Bristol
    2. Jean-François LEMARCHAND
    3. Hi to all, I'm trying to track down Thomas HUDD said to be son of Charles when he married Mary VALE on 25.04.1856 St Georges Bristol. (Certificate in hand) I have found through IGI the christening of a Thomas HUDD s/o Charles and Dinah on 04.04.1841 at St Georges Bristol. A Charles HUDD and a Dinah SYMONS were married in BITTON on 22.03.1789 I would be very grateful if someone could check if this is an adult baptism as, according to the Census Returns, my Thomas HUDD should be born between 1805-1810. Nota : He first married Sophia RADFORD on 24.12.1829 at St Georges, Bristol. Sophia's death registered in Clifton 4th Quarter 1855. The death of a Thomas HUDD registered in Barton Regis 4th Quarter 1884 age 83, giving a birth around 1801, but the age given could be a mistake as in 1881 Census his age is said to be 71. >From the marriage of Thomas HUDD and Mary VALE was born only one daughter, Eliza Ann in 1858, my Great Grandmother, who married Francis HODGES s/o William and Mary Ann WILLIAMS in 1876 at Philips & Jacobs Bristol. Many thanks for any information concerning the my above mentioned ancestors. Jenny LEMARCHAND (France) -- J'utilise la version gratuíte de SPAMfighter pour utilisateurs privés. 3. I'm trying to find a baptism for Miles MORSE born about 1827 (census calculations) in Stroud. I think I have found him in 1841 (as a gamekeeper at Barton Tything, Cirencester - not with family) and in 1851 (as a Grocer's shopman in Birmingham Warwickshire - again not with family). Subsequent census have him with first and then second wife, but apparently not with any parent or sibling etc. though there are other relatives and visitors, one at least from his first wife's family. He dies in 1893 in Birmingham. Has anyone any idea where Miles was baptised, or even who were his parents? Jay

    3. James Godsell (b. 1762), Dymock and Mary Hodges (b. 1768), Dymock, Gloucestershire I am trying to solve the conumdrum of which Mary Hodges married James Godsall in Dymock in 1790. A fellow researcher with 30 years experience of tracking the Hodges family is working with me. Esther Godsall, born Dymock 1795, is the g-g-grandmother of the writer. She was the daughter of James and Mary. Note Esther is sometimes spelt Hester and known variants of Godsall through time are Godsal, Godsel, Godsell and Godsawe. Dymock Parish Register transcripts record the marriage of James Godsell to Mary Hodges in Dymock on 14 October 1790. One of the two witnesses was Hannah Hodges. The same transcripts also record the marriage of Mary Hodges to William Ring (b. 1754) of Colwall in Dymock on 17 August 1792. "Ring" is believed to be a mispelling for King based on the evidence of his will, proved in 1798. One of the witnesses was Thomas Hodges. There is no record of James Godsell's death or burial on the Forest of Dean Parish Register transcripts in the intervening period and a Thomas Godsell was born to James and Mary in Dymock in 1800 suggesting that the pair were still very much together. Mary, Hannah and Thomas Hodges were all born to William and Hannah Hodges. However there were two consecutive generations of William and Hannah Hodges in Dymock, the first, nee Hill, married in Dymock in 1741 and the second, nee Taylor, married in 1765. Both generations included a Mary, Hannah and Thomas among their children. Mary Hodges born Dymock 1768 was a child of the second William and Hannah (nee Taylor). Mary Hodges, born Dymock 1751 to William and Hannah (nee Hill), spinster married Joseph Stephens, bachelor of Redmarley Dabitot in Dymock on 20 November 1777. Joseph died and was buried in Redmarley on 17th August 1790 Finally a James Godsall was buried, aged 70, on 10th July 1826 - at the time of his death he lived at Leddington in Dymock Parish. Any pointers to which Mary Hodges married James Godsell gratefully received. Thank you

    2. Unfortunately, I can't help you with your quest because my Godsells do not go that far back. Perhaps you can help me with mine. Do you have an information on Anne Godsell, probably born in 1812 in Wotton-under-edge, King Stanley Parish and died in Stroud in 1882. She married Henry Marmont King on 23 September, 1833 in King Stanley Parish. She is my great great grandmother. I have absolutely nothing on her parents. 3. Keith, You could try visiting the new Local Studies & Family History library on Chester Walk, Cheltenham [just behind the main library on Clarence Street. Street directories, Electoral registers, parish mags, all sorts in fact to offer clues to the life of your ancestors. Newspapers on microfilm too. Very important resource. Webpage has been updated to list the main collections. http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries/index.cfm?articleid=1369 It is advisable to contact the library to book a film reader in advance as they do get used, and also an email if you fancy anything in particular so it can be got out ready for your visit. Use the locate catalogue linked on the above page. St Peters church is along the Tewkesbury Road, just beyond the Tesco stores. It is about a 15 minute walk from the town centre so easily possible. I'm not sure when it is open if you are thinking of having a look inside. Hope this gives you some encouragement to make the journey, and should you make it into the library I may even meet you there!! My friend and I are thinking of travelling to Cheltenham to see if we can find out more, but because we are complete novices on how to go about searching, any advice given will be most appreciated. regards to all Keith > >
