Did he marry Laura Mary Powell in 1895 Stroud, I cant find a death for Henry Robert Beavis before 1915 or a marriage for Laura Mary Beavis. Was his first marriage to Mary E Fluck? Best Wishes Maureen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of mal hale Sent: 12 September 2008 23:29 To: [email protected] Subject: [GLS] BEAVIS family Stroud Is anyone else researching the Beavis family from Stroud at the end of the 19th century? Henry Robert Beavis, born 1858, married twice but I have been unable to find his death registration. He was alive in 1901 but his second wife was widowed and remarried in 1915. His father William is also proving difficult to pin down as there are a couple of possible candidates. On Henry's marriage cert in 1895 it states that father William was an outfitter. I presume (although perhaps I shouldn't) that this was also in the Slad/Painswick/Stroud area. Hello Catherine, I was given to understand that the movement was primarily in the reverse direction. That is, as seams in tin and copper mines wore out, miners moved from Devon & Cornwall to the Forest of Dean and to the south Wales coal fields. Once expressed amusingly as the cola fields, which draws a picture of miners mining for drinks. Jenny: Amazing, I found a Nancy Coleman in Longhope whose father was Josiah!! Thanks so much you've been a great help with this. Do you know if it is reasonable to assume that anyone from this area would move to Cornwall. Can't see it myself . Catherine Hi, Had a look on my baptism c.d 1813-1837 no josiah found but did find a winifred baptised on the 14 mar 1813 born on the 27 june 1812 parents john and nancy at longhope all saints occupation dealer found a marriage john blewett married nancy coleman 23 april 1804 by banns at gloucester st michael
Jenny: I don't know why I can't put everything in one e-mail. Josiah named his children with very unusual names for the males: Coleman, Wellington, Milson, Webster and Mordecai. Females: Nancy, Roseanna, Winifred. Thanks so much. Catherine
Jenny: I intended to tell you that Josiah Blewett's first son was named Coleman!! - interesting that that's the maiden name of John's wife Nancy as you noted to me. In Josiah's second marriage in 1895 (believe it or not!!!) his parents were listed as John and Nancy. I thought on the Forest of Dean Site that all the parish registrations were transcribed on it. Do I understand incorrectly? Thanks so much.
