Hello, I have Vicks in my family tree, what are you looking for? Lydia seems to have done well after being left with four little children, 1901 shows her as being a farmer. I am looking for the christenings of Joseph Baylis SKEATES and for christenings of his siblings. His likely parents are Robert SKEATES and Esther BAYLIS who were married 31 Jan 1825 in Christ Church, Bristol, Gloucester, England. When he was married in 1853 at Holy Trinity, St. Philip, Bristol, his father was listed as Robert Skeates, Accountant. In that same year, Robert Skeates was the Church Warden. In the 1851 and 1861 census, he said that he was born in Bristol, St James. I have looked at the film for Bristol, St. James for the time period and found only one or two entries, and they were not for his family. Any assistance in this search would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Carolyn Harmon

Hello Joan I did a bit of looking around and would suggest two places. Salperton is where he was born so it might be an option. It's the one I would go for first. The other place may be Newent where his wife was buried in 1844. Strange, his daughter Fanny died same time according to Free BMD 1844 Dec Q. but no mention of Fanny being buried in Newent. Probably buried with Elizabeth. However, I cannot find him buried in Newent. Do not have any access to Salperton though, except that Isaac's father William married Anne BERRY and apparently had 3 chn or more. Maybe the workhouse used a particular parish but maybe the Workhouse records would tell you more if there are any available. Glos Rec Office would know that. I tried the programme PARLOC to find out parishes around Salperton and came up with these that seem possible: Hazleton Hawling and Charlton Abbots. These are within 2 miles or so of Salperton and PUDDLES do seem to be around in these places. Depends maybe, who arranged the funeral and where THEY lived. Also strange, Isaac is stated to be unmarried in later censuses. Hope this helps somewhat. First thanks to all whom replyed to my request for info on Bernard Wildsmith and family in 1901. However it appeas I was incorrect in my assumption that William T Wildsmith age 14 in 1901 Plough Boy born Tetbury was one of the family. Bernard and Wife Kate were not married until 1898 in London which rules out William being a son of Bernard although it still could be a possibility. The only hope would be conformation of 1891 census and where he is living and with whom. William Thomas Wildsmith later served in the RAN during WW1 according to service records. any advice appreciated Regards Bob Wilesmith NSW Australia

Dear Listers I have just discovered a family remembrance card naming Fly/Off g Michael Trotman aged 27 yrs killed in air accident Aug 13 1951. He is interred at Painswick Cemetery Glos. I know he was born & bred in the area, but the accident could have been anywhere. Please could anyone give me a clue as to which newspaper of the time might have reported the news? If anyone has any information to offer I would be grateful . Many thanks Pat
Hi Mal Have found Henry in 1891 details below and image(s) sent of list Henry Beavis - Head 32 - Builder - Born Devonshire Jane Beavis - wife 33 - Born Redditch, Worcestershire Edward - Son 10 - Scholar - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Ada - Dau 6 - Scholar - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Harold - Son 5 - Scholar - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Arthur - Son 3 - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Reginald - Son 2 - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Robert - Son 8mo - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Eliza Cratchley - Serv 14 - Domestic Servant - Born Painswick, Gloucestershire The previous house was numbered 128 Slad Road(50), the next 133 Slad Road(52), but no number against theirs only 51 the No of Schedule. This is in District 5 of the census for Painswick, my relation Elizabeth Ricketts and family were in District 4, so obviously they split Slad Road into two areas for this census. In 1871 he is in Painswick with George W Cox - Head 41 - Compositor - Born West Cowes, Hampshire Emma Cox - Wife 37 - Laundress - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Harry W - Son 10 - Scholar - Born Painswick, Gloucestershire Henry Bevis - Nephew 14 - Plasterers Labourer - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire In 1861 have found him with William, in Stroud, as follows (Harry/Henry are often mixed) William Beavis - Head 30 - Cutter at an Outfitters - Born Exeter, Devon Eliza Beavis - Wife 30 - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire William - Son 7 - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Harry - Son 3 - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire Robert G - Son 5Mo - Born Stroud, Gloucestershire There is a death for a William Beavis born abt1831 in Jun Qtr 1868 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, Vloume 6a Page 196 for the certificate and for Eliza Beavis born abt1831 in Sep Qtr 1869 Stroud, Gloucestershire, Vol 6a Page 186, which could explain why he is living with relatives in the 1871 census. There is also the death of Emma Maria Beavis in Stroud in Mar Qtr 1859 who may be another child who died as an infant Robert Beavis is staying with the same Cox family as Henry in the 1881 census. Hope that helps you in your search. thanks Tony > The details I have concern my grandmother Levia Mary (Powell) and her > first husband Henry Robert Beavis who was a builder. Hi Tony!! What can I say? Thank you so much for all the information you sent me last night. I am delighted as just glancing at it I can see it fills so many gaps and answers so many questions, too. I am just going to take a closer look at it all now. Thrilled to bits! Many thanks Mal On 5 Oct 2008, at 20:19, Tony Ricketts wrote: > Have found Henry in 1891 details below and image(s) sent of list
Hello again, Gary. Have just been looking at the LIDDELL family. Are you linked to Thomas GAY and Margaret ALDRIDGE who married in 1703? If so, we may be connected. I am descended (I'm pretty sure) from Henry GAY who married Judith in 1669 in Stroud. I believe Thomas GAY who married in 1703 was their son (bap.1675). I'm really trying to discover whether there was any connection between the Nathaniel GAY who married Martha CANTON in 1729 and the family descended from Henry GAY and Judith. [I think she was Judith CLISSOLD.] However, I've found no record on the IGI of there being a Nathaniel GAY born in Stroud - or anywhere else - in about 1700.
