Joan You say that the bible recorded George's birthday as 22 Oct 1839. On Freebmd there is a George Henry HUNT recorded birth, at St. Mary. Newington which is in the county of Surrey. Sept Qtr ,Vol 4, Page 289 Yuu may already know this, but thought I would post, just in case. Jean
If Anthony Mann is still on this list, I would be very pleased to hear from you in connection with the boatmen in your family. Hugh in Gloucester
HI all I` have been lucky to find details on my family even though the surname is spelt Highatt. James and Mary Highatt had five children christened in Tidenham. James on the 24.2.1816, Elizabeth on the 19.10.1817, William on the 26.3.1820 and Emma and Robert who were both christened on the same day 6.9.1829. Can anyone help me find out what happened to any of this family. ----------------------------------------- Email sent from www.virginmedia.com/email Virus-checked using McAfee(R) Software and scanned for spam
Hoping someone can help me with one of my brickwalls that I have been trying to solve for years. I have my great grandfather George Hunt who married in Kingston, Ontario in 1868 Margaret Lester. His parents are suppose to be Thomas Hunt & Charlotte Appleton as per their marriage registration, he was in the Royal Artillery from England, saying he was born in Newington, England. He was born 22 Oct 1839 recorded in a bible. Now I can prove none of it!!! I have tried everything to try and get some proof on his parentage or his birth. I have tried many Newingtons in England looking at films either ordered in or at LDS in Salt Lake City, USA, no baptism, no birth certificate can I find. Plymouth is where his battalion was stationed before going to Ionian Islands and Malta before coming to Canada. Have tried familysearch.com, searched many Newington areas, contacted Appleton researchers still no luck. Now a new discovery for me in looking in my "The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers" County by County I find a "Newington Bagpath" in Gloucester so I am hoping this might be the Newington area he is from as my Murphy-Stutfield connection is in Bristol I have just discovered. Can anyone offer any suggestions or help? Thank you, Joan Hedberg from Canada
Hi I am also related to this Smith family. James Smith and Mary Workman. My line is through Sarah Smith who married John Day. She is a sister to Elizabeth Smith who married Richard Monk. Would be happy to correspond. I also have other Smith lines...Elizabeth Smith who married Daniel Yewen in Uley 1743... I have information back on both lines. Regards Carolyn [email protected]
Sonia, did you get any help on this? If not, let me know and I may be able to help in the not too distant future. Cirencester Library holds the papers and has just reopened after major refurbishment [altho' the papers were available whilst in temporary accomodation it wasn't quite as easy as it will be now] and so I plan to visit to do some more of my own research. You omit the year of death of Jack - any clues? Lynne sonia brakowski wrote: > Didn't hear from anyone so thought I would try posting this again. Thank > you. Hi Esther, Alas, I have SMITH on nearly every line. The Gloucestershire line is Elizabeth SMITH who married Richard MONK in Minchinhampton 1774. She later maried William GABB in 1791 and she left a will, which is a favourite of mine.. Her parents were probably James SMITH and Mary WORKMAN. see her on our rootsweb site: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=kosmoid&id=I182 Good Luck with your research, Jane in blustery Scotland > Hi Listers, > Calling all Gloucestershire related Smith's to please check your > records for any Frederick, Elizabeth, Caroline, Ann or > better yet Clement Smiths in your line. Dear Lynn, no unfortubately I got no responses only yours, so if you can help me I would be so appreciatice. Jack Beasley died 10th July 1941 in Royal Naval Hospital, Stonehouse , Plymouth. As he was born and raised in Cirencester I was wondering if my gran would have put an obit in the local newspaper. Her name was Florence Emily Beasley and her husband was Harry Beasley. If you could also take a look at the obit for my other gramps, Harry Tanner (info below) that would be appreciated also. Thank you. Are you originally from Cirencester? I was born and raised there until I moved to the states with my husband in 1966. A lot of my family are buried in Chesterton Cemetary, and I have a brother in Stratton and a sister in South Cerney. Unfortunately neither of them are interested in the family history, so I am the one gathering all the information and as I live in the states it makes it hard. When I am able to go home I try to do as much research as I can but now with the price of airfares I don't know when I will get back there again. Looking forward to hearing from you again. The question's been asked - >> Can we plead/barter/bribe/beg ect for the UK to release their 1911 >> census >> sooner? Just a reminder that the thread's strayed from Gloucestershire, so let's halt it there, please. > It already is being released early (ie next year and in phases) but it > will be the last one that can be. The 1921, 1951 and subsequent > censuses are all covered by legislation that bars them from being > released under 100 years. > > The 1931 doesn't exist (destroyed by war activities) Sorry - that's incorrect. By a fire, yes, but not because of war. See http://www.1911census.org.uk/1931.htm Wendy GLS List Admin
Sue Coombs wrote: > Does anyone know if this information will be available through > ancestry.co.uk or will we be expected to pay to view this? Ancestry have said they will have the 1911 census in 2011 according to an email sent to a friend querying when they would have it. If you want to see it earlier then you could take out a 6 month sub to Findmypast or buy credits. Alternatively, you could apply for the details a family at a specified address for a cost of 45GBP.
Esther Ann wrote: > Can we plead/barter/bribe/beg ect for the UK to release their 1911 census > sooner? It already is being released early (ie next year and in phases) but it will be the last one that can be. The 1921, 1951 and subsequent censuses are all covered by legislation that bars them from being released under 100 years. The 1931 doesn't exist (destroyed by war activities) and there wasn't one in 1941. The best we have is the 1939 registration that was used for ID cards (and for finding the able bodied men) but that's also covered by the 100 year rule.
it will be available initially through Findmypast see http://www.1911census.co.uk/ On 25 Oct 2008, at 18:17, Sue Coombs wrote: > > Hi, > > Does anyone know if this information will be available through > ancestry.co.uk or will we be expected to pay to view this? > > Thanks, > Sue > >> >> The 1911 census is to be released early. Hi Listers, Calling all Gloucestershire related Smith's to please check your records for any Frederick, Elizabeth, Caroline, Ann or better yet Clement Smiths in your line. If so contact me ASAP ;-) Clement should definitely stand out like a sore thumb. There aren't many on any records that I've had access to. Therefore, if you have one in your line, Great Uncle, Grandfather distant cousin or whatever, and if he resided anywhere near or around Priory Road then I'd say that was a BINGO hit! I've gone through so many methods to try and find the info on my grandmother, Caroline Smith and I keep coming up empty handed. Suspicions are either she is under her mother's maiden name Swan or she was by another father and therefore I'll be chasing my tail until doomsday! However, if any Smith's between Gloucestershire and Wiltshire who are doing research has heard tales in their family lines of any of these names do not assume it doesn't apply to you. My elusive Smith and Swan families can hide forever? ;-) Other possible connected names: Hibbered, Wheeler, Bennett, Bick, Jones/Johns? Esther Fetsko Can we plead/barter/bribe/beg ect for the UK to release their 1911 census sooner? This is crazy???????????????? One glance at that and it would save me so much money, time and headaches.... Caroline nee *Smith (Swan) ?* Birth: May 17th, 1905 Place: 121 Lower Westgate Street, Gloucestershire Parents: Edgar* Smith*-DOB:1860-DOD1948, Elizabeth *Swan,* Unk Sibling: Frederick G.*Smith*, DOB:Nov 4th,1912, Priory Rd. Gloucestshire St. Nicholas Church Marriage: December 31,1930, Swindon, Wiltshire Spouse: Reginald *Platt*, DOB:1903-DOD:1959 Caroline Smith attended a convent of some sorts to train as a scullery maid She had a passport and traveled to Australia twice and U.S dozens of times. She received a pension, but had no drivers license. No known church affiliation? there are literally only five Caroline Smith in Gloucestershire between the years of 1908 to 1911 and four Caroline Swan's between 1895 and 1903. Does anyone think I should do an inquire on these particular ones even though I had already paid and done an inquiry through the GRO for some of these? I just need to go through the process of elimination before I go on another path so I can determine if Elizabeth Swan was indeed her mother and or her surname at birth. aahahahahahahah I've already searched all the possible available records and came up with variations that just spin me further into a tail chasing circle. Edgar Smith, 1861 census: (age 2, w/parents: Silvanus Smith & Emma Bick, 21 Westgate St. Gls) "coincidentally" " " 1881 census: married to Ann Bennett, Gls. " " 1891 census: Undetermined " " 1901 census: Undetermined Elizabeth Swan 1891 census:(adopted niece, age 16 w/ Mary Fones/Jones, Bristol) "Unverified" No other information has been verified.
Goodmorning, If Louise Argent is still on this list could she contact me regarding the above family. Thank You, Ken _________________________________________________________________ Discover Bird's Eye View now with Multimap from Live Search http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/111354026/direct/01/
Thanks Firebird, I've no interest in Visas, only in a need for a Passport! and whether or not it is worth hunting for records of an applicatio; and how much to worry if no application is on record. I feel sure you have the answer.
