    3. Hi Dave, Thank you for the link to your website with the Mayors of Bristol. However, I would like to make a small correction; the Mayor in 1721 was my ancestor John BECHER [definitely not BELCHER!]. His name was sometimes also spelt Beecher. I do have a picture of him and further information if you are interested. >From Jenny http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~becher/index.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Napier" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 28, 2008 11:37 PM Subject: [GLS] Bristol Mayors & Sheriffs > Hi > > Over 10 years ago, my first web project was to list all the Mayors, Lord > Mayors and Sheriffs of Bristol on my 'free website' provided by my ISP. > This 'exercise' was completed in about 2001. 3. Hi again Tony If my previous info is correct, on 1901 census Gloucester, the Rose TRUMAN living at 4 Deacon St Gloster (d.o Wm and Mary Ann) b. c. 1892 may be the one you are looking for. There is also a William DOWDESWELL born about 1881 parents Wm E amd Ann. He has a sister Clara so it could be him. This may help you to whittle down the year of marriage somewhat. Place probably Gloucester. How's the weather in Ontario? Hope this helps. 3. Hi Tony If you look at Free BMD, you will find Births Dec Q. 1911 gives William H DOWDESWELL mother TRUMAN . Likewise Clara and Doris later on (you can find these for yourself on BMD) also have TRUMAN as mother's maiden name. So this may be your Rose. Looking further on, it would appear that there were other chn Cecilia 1917 Albert 1918 Stella 1923 and Walter 1929 Don't take this as definite, but see what you think. Haven't come up with the marriage though. 3. Tony, According to the birth registration of Doris DOWDESWELL - June qtr 1915 at Gloucester reg district, vol 6a, page 549 - Rose's maiden name was TRUMAN. Using this information, I searched the GRO Index and there is a marriage registration in the December qtr 1911 at Gloucester reg district, vol 6a, page 625 of a Rosetta TRUMAN and a corresponding entry for a Horace E E DOWDESWELL. The only Rose TRUMAN I can find in the Gloucestershire 1901 census is the following: RG13/2425, folio 37, page 16 4 Deacon Street, Gloucester William H TRUMAN Head M 31 Labourer Staffordshire Brierley Mary Ann do Wife M 30 do Birmingham Mary M do Daur S 10 Gloshire Gloucester Rose L do Daur S 9 do do Emily do Daur S 7 do do William H do Son 5 do do Bengham do Son 4 do do Richard do Son 1 do do Louisa do Daur 2 months do do The marriage certificate will confirm if this is the correct Rose. William or Horace is more difficult to find in the 1901 and his father's name & occupation should make it easier to find him. HTH Janet > > Looking for the marriage of William Horace DOWDESWELL, possible early > 1900's, wifes christian name was Rose, surname unknown. 3. Hello David I have nothing - John Latimer gives a page or two about what happened during his term of office but does not mention him by name (Annals of Bristol 16th & 17th Centuries). The only other thing I can think of is maybe there's a will in the Bristol Records Office - their on line index only goes back to 1791 but they do hold earlier ones. 3. Dear Tony, I have been researching the Dowdeswell family for quite a few years now. I am decendant of Sarah Dowdeswell who was born in 1844 in Glos. I checked but I don't have any recent (early 1900's) information but I can tell you that William is definately a family name. If you would like further information let me know.
