We have a mystery to be solved concerning the burial place for the 1st London Woman Police Officer to be killed-on-duty: BERTHA MASSEY GLEGHORN, died 19th June, 1944 aged 33. We have had no success in tracing in the immediate council cemeteries near the incident, Tottenham Court Road police station. It is suspected that the family may have taken the remains back for a local burial, but where? We would very much appreciate the help of the Gleghorn researchers on this site. We now these further details; She was born 9th October 1910 but not as Gleghorn, though she was always an unmarried woman. We have traced a birth as BERTHA MASSEY LAWSON (her correct 2 christian names) in Midlands, Dec Quarter 1910. We have then traced a marriage in Darlington of a GEORGE GLEGHORN to --LAWSON & SARAH ANN LAWSON to --CLEGHORN(sic) Sept Quarter 1915. So part of the mystery begins to unravel. In the official Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour her parents are named as George & Sarah Ann Gleghorn -but no place of residence for them is given. Maybe in finding the burial place of George & Sarah, we will learn if Bertha is buried nearby? I would very much appreciate the help of any Gleghorn researcher/family tree compiler who can provide positive details including photographs of headstone etc (remuneration to be discussed) for burials of these people, especially the woman police officer named. My direct email address is: kefo.44@btopenworld.com During our research we have traced a further male police officer who served in London with the name Gleghorn. Hopefully we can swop details on this vital enquiry. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
